Two week tour of France, Any ideas?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm planning a two week driving holiday around France in the next couple of weeks. Any ideas for an itinerary ?
Please feel free to name roads, race tracks, hillclimbs, gorges, bridges or just interesting places I should take in. Millau Bridge, Route Napoleon, Verdun Gorge (is that the TG Audi RS4 V's rockclimbers one ? )Rheims are all a given.
Not wishing to drive like my hair's on fire (and not wanting to travel huge distances on a daily basis either) but would like some spirited drives along deserted challenging roads if possible.
The car of choice has yet to be decided but will either be a 964 RS or an Alpina B3S Coupe
Thanks in advance
Slippy

dear slippy,
not exactly and specifically france but you could do a lot worse than:
plymouth to santander ferry and then two or three days down thro the pyrenees to perpignan.
(stopping off at a private circuit in sw france to race formula 3 cars with your mates)
along the south coast (eastern side) of france and up to the milllau bridge.
then gorges du tarn, across to mont ventoux and head up to grenoble way, ready for an attack on the french alps and the RdN.
from the gorges du verdon head east (N202) to the col du turini and onto the italian riviera beyond monaco.
a couple of days rest on the shore of lake como.
como > stelvio > davos in a day via zernez and umbrail pass.
from davos head to chur, andermatt and the st gotthard pass followed by the nuffenen pass and some others, and stay on a lakeside in switzerland.
up through switzy and up through the black forest via waldshut and freiburg.
two more nights, one in strasbourg and the last night near epernay/reims.
visit the gp circuit then head for calais.
my oh my ! .... what a trip that would be ?

I'm off to France in my 993 with a mate in his Boxster for a week, leaving on 19th Sept. On the basis of recommendations on PH we're staying in Annecy for 2 nights, Castellane for 2 nights, haven't booked anything else yet.
Do a search for those places, lots of recommendations. I've set up a google map if you're interested. Let me now.

Just returned from a Europe trip. Not a driving trip per se but we did cover quite a lot of great roads.
I would recommend Route Napoleon - lots on here already about that. It's a bit dull around Sisteron, but otherwise excellent.
Also thoroughly recommend the N959 and N996 running through the countryside in the Troyes/Dijon area. I picked up this hint from an Autocar article and the roads are magnificent - very fast, flowing, well surfaced and quiet. I can be more specific about where they are if you need me to be (not got info to hand hence vagueness). I understand there's plenty of similar routes in the area.
If you are down the east side of France and fancy a hop across the border, the route from Baden Baden down through the Black Forest (?500) is also a corker.
You'll have fun whatever.
