Could apply to almost anything, art, antiques, cars, breasts, if there is no discernable difference, then does it matter if it (they) are real or fake?

Of course it matters if at some point in the future it (they) are going to be submitted to some kind of test where the difference can be spotted, but if that isn't going to happen then does it matter?

Is there some kind of intrinsic or even spiritual difference between the real thing and a perfect copy?

Well, yes...

How would you feel if you paid a lot of money for something that turned out to be a copy?

I know I wouldn't have been happy if the garages I went to managed to sell me a non-official UK bike when I got my Suzuki Marauder, for the same price as the real thing...

That would be a difference from the point of view of whoever owned the original material, but I am interested in the idea of the thing itself. If the user (or observer) didn't know the difference, then from his point of view, is there a difference?

I tried to take care of that in the second paragraph of my original question where I asked "Of course it matters if at some point in the future it (they) are going to be submitted to some kind of test where the difference can be spotted, but if that isn't going to happen then does it matter?"

I'm sorry, but if you can't tell the difference between real and fake breasts, then you haven't come across enough breasts.

depends if you are buying into a brand or not I suppose.

E.G. I used to do some sculpting, sold a few for reasonable money. Anyone could copy one of those pieces and frankly it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference as those I did them for were not looking for "a piece by Davi", they were looking for a specific subject matter being created.

Ironically a great many top flight artists don't do their own work anyway, so you are paying for a "fake" even when you buy an "original".

Personally couldn't give a monkeys who makes what I buy, if it has the quality, form and function that I require it's done it's job. Mind you, everything I buy I buy for my own pleasure, not to show someone else what I can waste money on.

Very good question!

Maybe it doesnt matter even if you can tell the difference, if the value you attach to something isnt based on its ££ value, But on the how much you appreciate the object in question?

Is that how you would tell whether soemthing was a forgery or not, the price? I guess the forgery would be cheaper, right?

yes there is, a very big difference. The original is the manifestation of the original notion, the inspiration, the concept of what it is to be, the other has value in that it is a tip of the hat, a nod in the direction of the original. The copy may have taken time to make, may have cost a great deal, but that's all it is - a copy. It does not carry - for want of an expresssion; the original artists 'energy' - all those things that together make original thought.

You can mass produce copies of the Mona Lisa to your hearts content, they could be stroke for stroke perfect reproductions, but they would not be the same. Not at all. How could they be?

Same for cars, there will always be the first model, the first iteration that fired up and drove off. It may have spawned many others, but there will always be the first one, all the rest will be different, in some ways may even be 'better', but it will always be the 'original'.

Ofcourse it matters!.

If I bought a Ferrari that turned out to be an MR2 I would be gutted. If I pulled a stuner and it turned out to be a ladyboy (even post op) I would still be gutted!.

Me neither. All of the women I've known in an intimate manner, and let me tell you there's been thousands, have all had "real" breasticles.

Never had the "pleasure" of a fake pair.

It only matters where it is fraudulent. i.e. buying something at full price and finding out later that it is a (less valuable) fake.

But if you just want something that looks like a Rolex on your wrist, and you don't care about the brand/history/marketing, buy a cheap fake. Spend the rest on coke and hookers*!

But an MR2 copy wouldn't be a perfect copy as it would essentially be an MR2 and this misses the point of the question.

What if it was hand built from scratch so that every part was an exact replica of the original Ferrari? You couldn't tell the difference by looking, only by knowing and I think that's what the OP was getting at.

A quite attractive female friend of mine had hers faked. Once the tenderness had gone, to save the questions being asked of her she got them out and insisted everyone had a play to see how they felt.

They feel very nice and firm a bit like the ones you remember from fumbles as a teenager.
