Im going to be driving round Europe in a few weeks time and have heard that you are not allowed to use portable Sat Navs in Switzerland.

Is this just if they have the speed camera locations in them or is it a total ban??

Do the police stop people if they see them being used?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 250 with all Europe speed cameras on it

We went through the the border last week and stopped to buy the vignette and no-on batted an eyelid at the Sat Nav which was stuck to the windscreen at the time.

It's not sat navs that are illegal in Switzerland, but camera detection systems, including GPS based ones that may be on your sat nav.

I'll be going through Switzerland in a couple of weeks time, so my Swiis camera database will be residing on an SD card that I can slide out just before I cross the border, in case anyone decides to check.

From my local contacts when I am down there, its not the sat navs that they object to, its having them stuck to the window, hence blocks your view. However, I've never had an issue with that, but you know how much the Swiss are sticklers for the law.

I don't believe the normal maps cover Switzerland for speed cameras, so you'll need to be on your toes.

Incidentally, my tom tom works fine in Switzerland.

Cheers

Thanks

Have got a MINI so will be sticking it to the central speedo in Switzerland so its not on the windscreen.

Have to use the digital readout anyway
