I am planning on buying a cheap motorway hack and thought a 1994 BMW 325 tds may be a good choice. The ones I am looking at have approx 120k on the clock and may have service history. Car will do approx 20k per year and all on motorways. I know there are more powerful and economical cars around but I want a solid car and I have had BMW petrol cars before. Are they reliable, I know they are indirect injection rather than direct injection but that should make too much difference? All pointers gladly welcomed.

Thanks

I owned a 94 525tds auto for a few months.

I would never buy such a POS ever again. Unreliable, thirsty dung. I was never so glad to get rid of it....fortunately that was before the engine totally packed in.
