I need to upgrade my phone - just realised my contract runs out on friday so should probably sort it out. Current thoughts are:

N96 - Not out yet, is it possible to wait without keeping my current contract for another month (£40), and how cheap is it - this phone may also have teething issues and be extremely expensive.

N95 8GB - great camera, wifi, internet, email - not overly good looking though and data would be an added expense on the contract.

Samsung tocco - Good looking, touch screen, 5MP camera, no wifi, data is an added expense on the contract.

Samsung omnia - good looking phone, as above but a bit more advanced, can't use it without the stylus very easily confused

Apple iPhone - Outside choice - great looking phone, great screen/display/music/video, despite all the faults, only 2MP camera, no video recording etc etc, I'm still strangely drawn to it and data is included in the contract which it wouldn't be with the others although this is probably the most expensive option....

Which should I choose? Please help!!

Confused confused

If you're considering the Omnia, then you may also want to consider the HTC Diamond or HTC Touch Pro. These can be used without the stylus, especially the Touch Pro with its slide-out keyboard.

Went from a N73 to an iPhone 3G and haven't regretted it for a second. If you do a lot of net surfing and use imap/Exchange email, it's really faultless and so much stuff "just works". If you know anyone who has one, give it a try and see how you get on.

That would be my suggestion.

A network named after a primary number are doing a £35 18 month contract which includes free unlimited use of Sat-Nav IIRC.

I don't think there is any charge for using wifi though... and to be honest I don't think its ugly at all!

Well if you run over your contract is not automatically extended (at least im fairly certain its not mine never has been). You could try calling your provider and asking if you could lower your monthly payment to basic for a month or two then upgrade i am sure they will be wiliing to do so.

95 is good 8g version is probably better. The things my brother could make his n95 do were astonishing in terms of performance and applications.

Mrs Puggit renewed her Orange contract today with a new Tocco.

£20 per month gives her 600 minutes, unlimited text, 250MB of data per month AND insurance.

I was gob-smacked as last year Orange refused to give me anything, they wouldn't even match a T-mobile new customer contract...

I've no idea about other networks, but on o2 you just keep on paying your contract and then upgrade at whatever point. It should perhaps be noted it is a minimum contract and not a fixed term...

MOH bought an iphone a couple of weeks ago after having an N95 for a while - we both love the phone even if it is tied to O2 for 18 months. It's a fabulous interface, the only niggle we have is due to the silly downloads you can get for it and play with, the battery life is short. But I guess that's the 'honeymoon' period and give it a month we won't be so enamoured by it. It's a phone FFS - but the Google maps app for route mapping is great! smile

Having just been in to town and tried the Tocco and Omnia again, I can safely say that their touch screen texting is way down on the iphone!! Tried the new 8MP samsung and that's pretty good but a bit boring. Really fancy the iphone but don't know if I can manage without the decent camera and ability to take video..... confused

Just keep your current phone and wait for a decent phone that suits your needs to come out.

I am having to do this. Phones seem to be having more and more gadgets on them, rather than being better at the functions that REALLY get used.

This is exactly what I'm planning on doing now, I'm also looking for part time jobs in phone shops so it will probably be worthwhile waiting and seeing if they offer staff discounts once I've found a job!

Can I reduce by contract to basic for the next few months and keep this phone or do I have to swap the number to a PAYG sim and do it that way??

Am due an upgrade shortly as well and was looking at the HTC Touch Pro but can't seem to find out when it is being released on contract. Can't really afford to buy an unlocked one. So if you know when & what networks its coming to, could you let me know??

Cheers

I would go for Samsung Omnia or maybe the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 (it's like the Omnia but has a slide out QWERTY keyboard, 3.2MP cam, VGA 30fps video cam, A-GPS rather than built-in GPS module, 512MB onboard rather than 8/16GB on the Samsung) - the SE isn't out yet though.

I would love to upgrade but my contracts need another few months tongue out

I am currently on an N95 - it's OK - just a bit bland and has poor battery life, GPS never locks on etc. and I think the N96 would be too similar but it's up to you. However it has a great camera.
