Forgive my ignorance, but the show on the BBC, the Tudors, does anyone know how accurate it is? I.e. have they used writings from the period to reconstruct what happened (I appreciate there will always be the "artistic license") but I just wondered how accurate it could be....

Not very - according to the Tudor historian I was speaking to at Petworth House a few weeks ago.

How accurate?

The names of the people are pretty accurate and the fact there are men and women, apart from that.......er not much else.

It is quite accurate on the basic idea of the series.

It is using artistic licence for msot of it.

But I enjoy the series on Henry VIII Someone mentioned to me their is an Elizabeth one as well.

It's made by an American TV company for an American audience with romantic notions of what England was/is like.

Someone certainly read a history book before making it as there are some key 'little things' which have been accurately imported.

But, as for the way the set and cast are dressed - not even close.

Very inaccurate - in one episode, Henry says to Anne Boleyn on the birth of Princess Elizabeth "We are both young; by the grace of God, we shall have a son"

Henry was then 41.............

In the trial of Sir Thomas More, they refer to the prosecution's witness as "Mr Richard Rich, Solicitor General" when, actually, he was Sir Richard Rich, the attorney-general for Wales

and so it goes on - really too irritatingly inaccurate to watch

That's not encouraging!

I was at least wondering if they had used historians etc
