Hi All,
I have the tell tale drips of oil in and under the gearbox inspection hole.
My Griffith closely resembles the worrying photos of a rear crank oil seal leak in Steve Heaths book!
I think it is a recent development as my clutch seems unaffected so I assume it is currently uncontaminated by oil?

I need advice in two areas, firstly I have only recently bought the car (two months ago) from a well known TVR dealer.
Should they be sorting this problem? Their warranty isn’t a return to base and we will fix it type, rather it is via a national warranty provider.
Naturally oil seals are not covered in their warranty blurb!
Secondly, if the dealer does not repair it how much will it cost at a garage?
(I am a reasonably competent d.i.y mechanic, but had a nasty experience with an automatic gearbox on my chest recently that has dented my enthusiasm for gearbox removals!).
Any advice welcomed.
Cheers Keith

It’s engine out or Gearbox out. To be honest if it isn’t gushing then probably better to put up with it.

Did you say your clutch was affected ... if so claim for that and get the seal done whilst the clutch is being done for free?

It's not unusual for that area to be contaminated with oil; there's a lot of turbulance goin' on down there. Any clumsy top-ups or leaks (rocker covers, filter, oil px sender etc) and the residue will soon find it's way back there. A weeping sump gasket is often the culprit.

I also had drops of oil in the same place but turned out to be a weeping Rocker Cover gasket. Worth taking your time to clean various areas & seeing what happens over the next 1000 miles.
