fix for a squeaky power window?

Tried a search but didn't find a post on it. The driver's window on my E39 is squeaking. What's the best way to get rid of the squeaking please? Thanks.

Is it rubber to glass, or a mechanical squeek?

must be rubber to glass, it sometimes gets better after a drive in the rain.

Silicon spray on the rubber will sort it, you can get it from Halfords. Had the same thing in my E36 coupe.

Won't that transfer to the glass and smear it?

No, spray it onto the rubber and just sort of polish it in. Works a treat, no different to furniture polish.

Try pulling the rubber window seal out of the door frame, then scrubbing it with a brush and some warm soapy water. Years of accumulated dirt is often the cause to a common problem on older cars, and I'd recommend doing this first. Putting a silicone spray on first can make it more difficult to get the dirt out afterwards, assuming that's the real cause.
