Just bought Seventh Tree byt Goldfrapp. Great album with some very atmospheric songs. So why has the Producer "dynamically" limited them. I cannot push the volume up beyond 8 o'clock on a volume that starts at 6 before it's way too loud!!!!

Have you downloaded it or bought the physical disc? If its an mp3 then they're compressed but if its bit rate is 224 kbps or above it shouldn't be that noticeable.

Maybe the producer has chosen to add compression in the studio, which helps to bring the quieter parts of the album out more so they aren't as lost on low quality sound systems! As you said though, the disadvantage of this is a smaller dynamic range so louder parts don't have the same impact they might have had.

You often find this with radio friendly pop music (not that I'm saying that's what Goldfrapp are) but I'm not familiar with them or the producer.

Just had a quick look and he co-produced The Smashing Pumpkins 'Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness' which is one of the best albums of all time IMHO.

It's the deluxe CD. He has engineered some good albums and Goldfrapps previous albums are ok so why this one is so processed is a mystery.
