I'm thinking of using a different e-mail client instead of Outlook, and was wondering what people thought of the different options (e.g., Eudora).

I've also heard of one called Bloomba which looks pretty good.

Features I'd like to see are the ability to check messages on the POP3 server before downloading them, and the ability to import email files from Outlook.

Outlook does an awful lot, but it's prone to virus problems.

I use Opera, which is very good indeed (although it doesn't provide all the calendar functions that Outlook does).

Downloaded Bloomba.. Boring.

Not as functional as Outlook.

Apparently Outlook 2003 is supposed to be blinding and it's out next month

Used Eudora for about 3 years; does everything I want, checking of several accounts then filtering stuff off into folders. Only snag I've found is when you get more than 38k messages in a folder and it does a rebuild every time you go in. And I don't think there's been any new versions for ages - the one where they added the amusing but useless Moodwatch was the last afaik.

At the time, I just wanted something that could do decent filtering and wasn't Outlook Express. Nowadays OE is fine and not the virus-trap it once was.

Never experienced a virus problem in 5 years of using Outlook myself. These days I run AVG anti virus to scan incoming/outgoing email etc and its never let anything through.

Perhaps they should rename it to Outlook 2004 since we're almost there.

I'll probably stick with Outlook then, and upgrade to 2003 when it comes out.

No real reason for wanting to upgrade, but I was interested to see if there were any other options with cool features.

Thats a NEW release?

Looks identical to the old one, bet its still powered by the same OOM as well.

Is it just Outlook or is it the entire office suite?

??? Looks nothing like their previous version!

The email pane is on the right and is screen height, the folders pane is different and the subject to/from section is set out differently as well.

I use calypso. they stopped developing it about 3 years ago, but I bought a license before they stopped so they gave me the latest update before stopping all product support.
does everything I want it to do, I have many family members using it, it isnt affected by MS viri & trojans.
