...and another question, this time relating to changing the engine sprocket with the ZZR1100 engine in-situ in my Clubsport.
I tried for an hour yesterday evening, to undo the special nut that retains the engine sprocket, using a big pukka home-made chain whip. I've used this whip in the past to good effect, with the engine out of the car. But with the engine in the car, I just can't get access to get the whip hooked up properly.
Is it actually possible, using some other tool perhaps, to change the engine sprocket with the engine in-situ? ...or is the engine gonna have to come out ...again!?

Have a rummage thru' the bottom of your tool box and find a suitably large diameter socket that you are happy to sacrifice.
Cut two slots out of the edge of the cocket to grip the two dogs on the nut.
Bobs your uncle..!

I just used a long screwdriver or maybe socket extension and a hammer.. Proper Pikey style..

I've got the special tool for engaging with the dogs on the big nut. The problem is reacting the torque that I would be applying to undo the nut, which I was proposing to do with the chain whip, or...

...are you proposing maybe I put the engine in gear and use the resistance of the engine to react the torque on the nut? If so, isn't there a danger that I'd strip a tooth in the gearbox?

Success!

Thanks to the good advice on this forum, I managed to remove the engine sprocket nut this evening. It took a damn great lever to apply enough torque to break the joint though, and I didn't have a willing wife to hand to apply the brakes, so had to make do with a piece of wood jammed between the brake pedal and the front of the seat.

What does that say about the institution of marriage? scratchchin

Again, thanks Graham.

So how much oomph is needed to do it up then?
