Series 2 E Type Roadster
Discussion
Hi, I am interested in converting my Series 2 "E Type" 4.2 Ltre Roadster to a 5 speed gearbox. Does anybody have any advice for me as regard to the best to fit. I would want the gear stick to be in the same position as the original and do not want to cut the floor about.

talk to uryk at e-type fabs 01325 481819 tell him paul kennedy sent you, his gearbox is a work of art goes in without any modifications to the body shell, gear lever in the same place, the box even comes with a billet housing which is too nice to be hidden, he even has a company next door who'll fit it for sensible money, mine goes in over the winter, you even get to use the standard jaguar clutches
the only other option that will go in easily with no modification is the jt5 box from the states, but these are becoming more expensive again with the weakening pound, paul who runs it doesn;t like shipping to the uk and so gives priority to his american customers hence you have no idea when it will actually arrive, there are a couple of dealers who who will source you one, but they have the same problem and won;t be able to tell you when it will arrive or how much it will cost, he uses a mustang clutch
eagle do one, but won;t supply it to you, they will want to fit it, it's well made like all their products but they tend to deal with the high end of the market
having spent 2 years looking, all there others that i'm aware of claim they don't need body modifications but do, i know there are certain companies selling them for stupid prices but these are reconditioned boxes, they'll give you the usual crap of, it's the same box from the m5, they don;t mean the box came from an m5 but is the same design as the one that was used on the m5

I purchased a 5 Speed Box from Classic Jaguar of Houston, Texas in 2004 & had it installed by Colin Ford who is the JEC E-Type "Guru". It cost about $4000 & I have driven about 10,000 miles in my Series 2 E-Type since then with no problems. For some reason, (I would guess a quality problem)Classic Jaguar are not currently selling them. While the box improved both oil & petrol consumption I really dont think there worth the money. The RPM is reduced at speed & is therefore better for the engine but in terms of a trade off between cost & benefit I dont think its worth it. And dont forget installation costs - probably in the region of 1000 to 1500 pounds.
