Well, the good news is that the 348 passed it's MOT emissions ... the bad news, it failed on its front discs.

Very frustrating as it was a job on the list for winter but could just as easily have been done when it was in 6 or 8 weeks ago.

So ... does anyone know the best/quickest place for a new set of front discs and pads please? Nothing fancy, just the standard spec will be fine, although grooved would be nice I suppose.

We have tried the local factors and they are drawing a blank. We have also been quoted £168 + VAT, each, which seems a tad excessive!

Thanks in advance smile

Al, got mine a few weeks ago from Scuderia Spares via Ebay for £235 inc P&P. Proper Ferrari boxed Brembo discs too but ignore the picture on the ebay ad - they're not cross-drilled.

You should be able to get pads as well. £35 for standard Ferodos or about £80 (iirc) for DS2500s. Fitting should be no more than an hour for someone who knows what they're doing. You could probably do it yourself in a couple of hours if you're handy with a set of spanners.

Hill Engineering do grooved discs though at £150 + vat + postage each they're a fair bit more.

Cheers Pete ... what are the £70 pads? Are they like racing pads and if so, will they squeal annoyingly. The car doesn't go on track.

Hill engineering do slotted discs but they are still £310 for the pair.

I've just gone for the standard Ferrodos - dunno what they're like as my car is *still* at Shiltech being sorted. They've had it a month now weeping Not that it's their fault - they've had a *lot* to do frown

It was booked in for a cambelt service but broke the drive shaft a few days before it went it. Had it trailered over and although it wasn't too bad (just broken/bent bolts and knackered threads on the flange coming out of the differential) it did end up needing a complete rebuild of the diff - ouch! eek At least with the engine coming out for the service it's saved a lot on labour costs I suspect these savings will have disappeared by now getting the diff rebuilt. Oh, and it needs a new alarm system too frown Still, Geoff has been an absolute star and very helpful in trying to minimise the hit on my wallet - so top marks to Shiltech! yes

Hopefully getting the car back tomorrow afternoon. It's been a bit of a bugger with the timing though as we had the first two weeks of September booked off and not having the car to enjoy (even in this awful weather) has been a bit of a downer. Tracy's Chimaera has been off the road too though that should be sorted tomorrow as well when it gets its new MOT (failed on rear number plate and fuel filler cap of all things rolleyes)

Ok... Dumb question maybe... but I was looking on the Hill Engineering website...

Why would you guys need a Reverse & First Gear Lockout?

Track/racing use I guess. Not much call for reverse and first gear once you're on the circuit and moving.

From the description:

For 308, 328, 348, F40, 288, GT4, Mondial, & Testarossa

With lockout for revese & 1st gear - Ideal for race cars - When sitting on the grid in 1st, simply rest the lockout onto the shift shaft. As soon as you are out of first gear the lockout will fall and inhibit reverse & 1st gear.

Unlikely on the BTaP front I'm afraid, though Tracy sends her thanks for being described as 'lush' biggrin

Shame, we need some of the old school back. It's just not the same.

Yeah, that's pretty much the reason we didn't go last year and probably won't again this year frown Damn shame - the first few were a real hoot, but times change and all that...

Front and rear pads on a 348 are the same. And yes, you can use non-Ferrari ones. I think the Ferodo ones I got said they were for a 348 or a Porsche 968.
