Hi,

I have had my Z4MC 07 (ruby black/red nappa) for just over a week now and was wonderring a couple of things. Does the aerial go down?, and if I mod the air intake, 'pos gruppe M' will that effect my warranty?

I had an Elise 111s for 4 years and have just sold it to fund the M, and first impressions are that it can be a bit of an animal, not brave enough yet to press the suicide button (traction control) as it has been constantly wet.

I had been toying with the idea of getting a TVR T350 for around a year but talked myself out of it due to service costs and time/milage requirements coupled with the reliability worries. I have always liked the look of the Z4 Coupe and when I realised they were now within my budget I went to look and drive and thought it was great. Classic coupe design, long bonnet and a sweeping back, kinda similar to the T350 but hopefully less heart-ache.

Any advise or views will be welcomed.

thanks.

Conratulations with buying your new toy!!!

I have a very modded E46 M3 (gruppe m intake, ap's all round , full miltek , csl wheels , kw 3's , eibach roll bars and many more ) !!

And here is what it would sound like with the air box changed

Been to dealer twice for warranty work since the mods and one for lower front arms and the other was new steering rack, and never had a issue at all with fixing my car...they even listen to me when i said dont carry out a KDS check as i would set the car up to my settings , all i had to do was sign to say i told them to fit parts only!!!

I do think that if you had an engine problem and then took your car in for warranty work with the air box fitted then depending on the fault and the bmw service adviser/dealer you talk too it might be tricky !

The first dealer a used is not the nearest to me but the only dealer to service it so thought i would carry on using them to keep the books tidy!!
stopped using them after i had a service done by them and they agreed to replace some leather under warranty , so i dropped the car back a few weeks later only to go to pick it up and bumped into a techincan on my way in in the car park telling how good it handles and stops compared to standard set up ?? went in picked up the keys got in the car had 15 more miles on the clock and it only went in for a new drivers seat base lol maybe the seat base needed running laugh

Its a different story with the dealer i now use !!

congrats its a great car smile coming from a Chim 450 i also fancied a T350 - but its not practical IMO(or afordable) for day to day use(25k pa in my case). Out of interest i'd like to put the Z4 back to back with a T350 to compare performance, i think on the track the z4 would have it though on the drag strip the win would go to the T350 smile

re: the warranty, i was under the impression that mods don't invalidate the warranty unless they can prove it was the mod that caused the issue... i.e. if you fitted an airbox and your oil pump went they'd be hard pushed ot get out of the claim, however if you mackeled (sp?) together a DIY cruise control and you starting having electronic throttle issues the shoe would be on the other foot wink

Thanks for the feed back, much appreciated.

I think I might just go for an air intake mod first, is Gruppe M the one to go for or are there other products on the market?

I also really need to purchase a radar detector, not sure if to get a Sat Nav which incoporates cameras etc, although I am more concerned with the mobile vans which a Sat Nav based one will not pick up. God I hate them mobile van camera people 'reptiles'. Anyway, just wonderring what everybody else is using.

Been exploring the capability of my new toy as the weather has been a little drier.

My Elise was a quick car, but this M has just taken me to another level, if it had wings it would take off i'm sure. I am also impressed with the handling, coming from an Elise I thought the m might be a little soft but, chucking it into the corners there is very little body roll quite like the Elise. I am beginning to think this is a well thought out car in every department.

Cheers

Congratulations. I think you'll find there are a fair few of us that bought them as 'German TVRs'. Ex-Cerbera owner myself.

In respect to the point and shoot handling of the Elise, what I can say is that I have now tackled local corners where I live @ speeds slightly faster than I did in the Elise and the M gives you the confidence to do so. The feed back is not the same as the Elise, basically down to the weight of the car coupled with having power steering which the Elise does not have. I do think that the M is the perfect replacement for the Lotus as, it offers more performance with better practicality and hopefully more reliabilty.

Did anyone pick up on my question about the Radar Detector??, been looking on the net and there is soooo much choice.
