I have an otter switch that switches on at 88 degC and of at 79 degC
I have a thermostat which is set to 82 degC
When should the fan (yep i only get one) switch off,as here is whats happening
Start car go for a drive, unless i reach mildly heavy traffic or a long stop at lights etc,the fan stays off.But once the fan comes on it dosent seem possible for it to switch off again,or am i missing something
Am i better of getting a different fan switch that switches say between 88 and 84

[sad arsed logical mode]
Your engine heats up to 82, at which point, water is routed through the rad. At 88, the fan comes on and starts cooling the water. At below 82 the thermostat shuts off the rad circuit, and the fan continues to cool the closed circuit for a few more seconds until it drops below 79. See - simple!

The moment the rad circuit is cut off though, the heat will soon open the thermostat again - so yes bit b
y stoopid really - surely the thermostat should be switching much lower down: it's only supposed to cut out the rad circuit to get yer engine warm a bit quicker. Logically the stat should open below the fan shutoff point - but I'm sure you worked that one out already
