Hi,

Client of ours received an invoice through the post something through the post from a company called "Nodots Internet Naming". Anybody else received anything?

They say that you can register domain names without dots enabling people to go directly to your website without knowing the actual address.

I checked out the website, as this sounds a little bit dodgy to me, and in order for this dotless domain thing to work, you have to download an install the "Nodots extension" for your browser.

Now call me stupid but how is joe public going to find this site and know to download this "extension" just so he might be able to find your site more easily from a keyword. If this extension was already built into the browser then it would make sense.

I think we'll be steering clear of this as there are better things that can be bought for £500, yes, they want to charge £500 for this... and it will only work if you download their extension!!!

Has anybody else heard of this?

The fact that it was in the form of an invoice due for payment by 24th September made me think it was dodgy, this is the first our client had heard about it...

Rob

If it is from a UK company, you need to report this to the ASA as it is a breach of the code of conduct for direct marketing.

Google ASA for more details
