Hi Im flying out there in Nov & this time Im going to hire a car for the long weekend. However as I currently dont have a sat nav and dont have any Bulgarian paper maps I was thinking do they currently exist how much do they cost over a normal one?

So far Tom Tom seem to only do Western Europe.

Never had Sat nav either...

I'd love it to have traffic updates so it would divert me around the jam before I hit it - how does this work? Do you need to link it with your mobile for it to work?

I'd also like points of interest, Petrol stations, pubs/hotels/food. As much as I can get really for as little as possible & I'd want it to last a long time.

Not asking much eh!

Garmin nuvi 660 certainly has maps of Bulgaria and includes a database with points of interest such as food, fuel etc.

There is no TMC service in Bulgaria, so you'll have to listen out for local radio for traffic broadcasts. I don't know whether RDS is available in Bulgaria?

Seems to have mixed reviews/mainly poor regarding reliability!

Well, mine's been absolutely 100% reliable.

I agree that the TMC is pants though - and I really, really HATE the 2-wire fag plug TMC receiver thing. Why Garmin don't make a simple 'hideaway' box which provides 12 to 5 V DC conversion, allows RF loopthrough and includes a TMC receiver allin one unit with just a single cable to the Garmin mount, I cannot understand. Or is this the usual running scared of fat-arsed American lawyer liability paranoia?

Go to the Tomtom website - they list maps for eastern europe as well as western europe.
