I have a liking for silver Cerbs and could do with a child friendly TVR as the Griff is spending to much time gathering dust wink

Hello mate hows you?

Yeah I can live the the S6 no probs and in some ways I actually would perfer it. The way I look at it for what you would pay for a 4.5 you can buy an S6 for and have the cash in the bank for a rebuild if it ever needs it. Most important to me is condition and colour and I was particularly looking for Silver with Portland leather.

Not in anyway desperate to change but always thought I might consider a Cerb if the right car came up - and this one looks up my street. My Griff should fetch more than the Cerb is up for so just tops of the slush fund a little. Few times this year I have wished I had a Cerb as I could have taken it with the wife and little one rather than the Diesel Laguna

Don't know the car, but it looks nice enough.

If that's the car you want colour/combo you could do little wrong in having a look.

I'm very good thanks. In your position I'd be looking at being able to afford the full Racing Green rebuild package with the bucket head. That way it ought to be one rebuild and you're done. I've heard their new engine run and it is whisper quiet compared to the standard item. If you can cover that then you're back to the usual checks on chassis condition and when the clutch was last replaced etc. I wouldn't rule it out, but if you factor in an RG build cost, you're also looking at a low mileage late vintage 4.5.

Martin. Dont do it with a speed 6, you will regret you ever bought it mate.

Stick with a late 4.2 or a sorted 4.5.

Here we go againrolleyes

Though in this instance I agree with Mr F, as the asking price is top end of the sixes. I'd consider buying at £16k with a 2 year warranty on rebuild from TVR Power, but otherwise theres plenty more available and cheaper. Plenty availalable AJP8s for that money, so saying you have money left for contingency is erroneous, but on cheaper cars I regularly use this argument.

On a personal note I hope you buy it as I am keen to see prices stabilise or even rise.

Don't rest on the low mileage either. Would rather see details rebuid and mods that low mileage. But as always, you are in the lap of the Gods.

Why would he regret it?? mines an S6 and just been told its one of the best cerbs that has been seen in my dealers and i love it.

One note about the advert though.....What is the speed twelve conversion that is mentioned in one of the bullet points?? <----forget about this note sorry, didnt read advert thoroughly enough. oops

ETA. Yes the price is a little steep, but if its had all the necessary mods done to the engine then it shouldnt be any problem. Like said above, your in the hands of the gods anyway. just pray you get a good one, whatever happens.

Lots of issues reported with with the 4.5 and 4.2 also just to balance things out. Lets not pretend that the AJP8 is bulletproof because it isn't.

I wouldn't hesitate to get a SP6 as Tuscan, Tamora, Sagaris and Cerb all use this engine and I just think that moving forward parts for the 6 will be a lot easier to source than the 4.2 and 4.5 that was only used in the cerb.

And if you ever do require a rebuild it won't be any more expessive than getting your AJP8 rebuilt.

The AJP is more mechanically durable than the S6, end of debate. Rebuilds typically (but not exclusively) occur beyond 50k miles and some achieve far more than that. There aren't that many issues with it that I can think of bar oil pressure relief spring, it tends to work. It does occasionally need a fettle to balance the throttle bodies, reset the pots etc, but no major surgery is required. I don't believe the S6 tends to need this intra service attention from the owners I know, but if there are problems they can be substantial. I've never worked out which is better on whole life time costs.

TBH I think the whole AJP vs S6 relaiabilty thing is a crock of sh!t, they're unreliable cars, face it, even the RV8 isnt too much better in reality.

I dont have any experience of the S6 and I reckon in the real world there probably isnt much difference in performance between that and the AJP's but I have been around this forum long enough to know that there is an under lying feeling that the model just doesnt come up with the goods. Somehow its seen as the poor relation of the Cerb community and for that reason anybody who buys one will always feel a little short changed. They will have this niggling doubt that they have picked the wrong one - just my thoughts.

Incidently I dont feel that way even though I drive Purple smile

Very wrong, especially when it comes to the RV8, (I have had and still have one for 8 years, now on 98,000 miles)

Nonsense, owned TVR's for 5 yrs and had very little problems - a broken seat belt retraction mechanism and alarm sounder to date and thats it

Show me a Speed 5 with 50k on the clock with no rebuild? I owned 3 speed 6 cars, 99 Tuscan 03 Tamora 03 T350, ALL needed rebuilds. In the end I got so fed up I paid Dom the best part of 6k and a brand new head to sort it all out and take the car to 4.0ltr. I still speak to the owner and it runs fine now, but there was a lot of changes to the engine to get there.

Everyone know the devlopment changes needed to these engine, just look on the Speed 6 forum, and now look at the development with bucket instead of shims...

Very similiar to mine, except mine has had a recent/decent rebuild. Also, I've had no problems but thenre again I always warn up gently. Having said that, how many times do I see S6 engines revved hard from cold, not too mention AJP's and RV8' and thats just at club meetings. No wonder some people have problems. Just my humble opinion....

However, I haven't been able to sell mine, so I will have to knock the price down a bit or just keep it until my little project is ready to roll. I do like that interior though,, almost as nice as red.

cheers
Graham

I know there are/were problems with the S6, thats why i said, if its had all the relevant mods to the engine then it should be ok.

where's the evidence that the mods fix the problem?
