Thinking of buying an SL350, anything I should look out for?

I start a new job in October and as they don't provide a company car they have given me an allowance in my salary.
I have been trying to decide between the 2 car option i.e. diesel hack for work miles and a weekend toy like a 993 or the 1 'special' car option. I have been leaning towards the 1 'special' car option and have been attracted to the SL350! The V6 should still provide sufficient power and sound when needed and still be capable cruiser and 'reasonable' mpg doing the motorway miles.
It seems to be a buyers market and there are some good deals around on SL's so I need to know what to look out for? It seems that a warranty is a must due to high MB labour and parts so need to factor the cost into the price. I assume most of you would agree?
What else should I look out for? I would be keen to test drive one, if any owners in the Redditch/Worcs/Midlands area would be willing to show me their P&J and even allow me to have drive (would arrange insurance if necessary of course) that would be great!
Are there any MB owners clubs or meets I could go along to?
