Hi, ever since I got my S1 I've noticed when cruising on the motorway I get a whine that sounds like its coming from the front but its hard to pin point. It sounds like wheel bearing whine.
Do all S1 suffer from this due to lack of sound proofing etc?

Cheers.

It may well be gearbox whine - S1s are notorious for it. Get into 5th, then build speed and let the revs drop a bit....accelerate again in 5th...

Is that the noise you mean? ( As you let off the accelerator, the noise changes....when you put your foot down again, it comes back )

If so, perfectly normal thumbup

Go out for a drive and listen carefully for a good few miles.

Pull over, kick the missus out of the car

Drive on in silence smile

If it's from the front, it's most likely a wheel bearing.

Jack the car up, grap the wheels at 3 and 9 o-clock and give them a good shake to see if there's any play. If none then spin the wheels and listen carefully. You might not have any play but the wheel should turn 'silently'. If it doesn't then the bearing may well be one it way out.

Is anyone going to the Lotus night at the Ace Cafe this Wednesday 17th Sept? could take someone out so they can hear the whine?
