Hi

AM really pissed off as ams till being affected by the previous tennents actions and I hope they all drown.

Anyway I need to get rid of a tag on the phoneline as quick as possible so i can get broadband up and running.

In addtion previous ISP provider wont give me a mac address as the previous tennants have taken a contract out but have now left the country and the provider say they can only provide a MAC address to them.

What is the easiest way to resolve this?

BT won't remove the tag until the ISP provides a cease order to them.

If the ISP's not willing to play ball, best bet if you want to get up and running quickly is to get yourself one of those mobile broadband dongles.

BT's "Tags on the line" department are a bunch of insufferable aholes who will not want to help you in the slightest.

I had this happen to me, right pain in the arse. It was a while ago now so I can't remember the exact details, but I'm pretty sure ofcom have a department that will sort this for you, have a look on their website http://www.ofcom.org.uk/ or give them a call.

If a phone number change is of no botheration to you, start a new BT account.
On my last rental before my current, that was the easiest way to get around the old broadband attached to the phoneline! smile

I have used this information in the past to get a TAG removed:

"If a tag is on the line, then it is possible to arrange for BT Wholesale to remove it. BT have a dedicated ‘tags’ team who can be contacted on 0800 1690934 - you can call them and arrange for the tag to be removed from your line."

This sounds a pretty good way to deal with the situation. How much is this to do and how long does the process take?

Will try the BT wholesale route first....

Change the telephone number, this is what I had to once do. And although BT was going to charge me for doing the same, when I told them I would move to Cable, they removed the charge.

PS. Order Broadband via Quidco, and one can get up to £100 cash back.
