Does anyone know of any decent routes around the North Kent area? I mainly ride alone and tend sometimes to lose a bit of the enjoyment of riding as I've no set destination and end up either retracing steps or going home frown

What I'm looking for is a nice decent pre-planned route with decent A/B roads etc...

Any recommendations of decent tarmac in this area will be muchos appreciated.

I've got a mate who lives down Canterbury way, if that's anywhere near you I can ask him.

Yeah it is. Around 15 miles or so down the A2.

I'm in Sittingbourne.

Would appreciate it.

North Kent - I guess the best roads are the A26 hacking down towards the A21 (Maidstone way - cross country to Paddock wood) Any road out of paddock wood is pretty decent, but depends how far you want to go. some great roads from Goudhurst through to Rye as well.

Heading SW a bit, great roads from back of Hildenborough out towards Penzhurst, then Tunbridge Wells and Crowborough.

Coming back, the B2026 from Crowborough to Westerham is absolutely stunning!

My favourite loop (I'm in Sevenoaks) involves heading out west on the A21 through Westerham, to the Godstone roundabout, down the A22 to East Grinstead and then the brilliant A264 back to Tunbridge Wells. That road is superb and very easy to get carried away on... lots of cornering and countersteering practice!!! (plenty of bends tighten up and there's lots of gradient change).

For just a quick ride for fun I tend to bomb up to Brands Hatch on the A225 and then back via Wrotham, Borough Green and Seal on the A25.

I don't have loads of local biker mates and tend to ride alone for fun and stress relief - plenty of decent roads around NW Kent. The A264 was my favourite in a fast car because of the bends plus ample passing places - on a bike it's great as you can pass cars on any straight and have the bends to yourself...

Hi wavey my husband (Maximumjed) and I live in Gillingham and go out just the two of us, we mainly use sections of previous Kent runs; A20, A251, A28, and other sections which we just kind of end up at.

Maybe we could meet up sometime. I am not very fast at the moment as I have a bad knee and getting used to my new bike.

IMO the best roads locally are:

the A20 from leeds castle to ashford,
the road from charing to challock then canterbury
and the road from Challock back to Ashford.

The last two have nice sweeping bends and a fair amount of elevation change. However don't bother with the A20 if operation stack is on.

I also like the A20 section further down near lympe and the road from Capel le Ferne near folkestone to Dover (B-road) - Nice cafe at Capel with bike parking overlooking the channel.

Further south there are some great roads over and around the marsh towards Rye.

Just my thoughts

I live in Dover (yes i know get it out of the way guys and gals lol), and am looking for some good rides in the next few weeks as well so all these roads are great smile

another nice one is the Alkham Valley from dover to folkstone. its easy to get to from the M/A20 and has some nice twists and turns

White Barron has it licked there. A20 from ashford to folkestone is awesome, Brenzett road is super fast, Hythe to Rye has everything you ever wanted, The wingham road between sandwich and canterbury is great as well

Thanks people.

I've just got back from A20 from Leeds to the A252 (Challock/Charing) which was closed half way up due to resurfacing so got diverted along a country lane till I picked up the A251.

Awesome ride!

Will try to get round to trying out some of the other suggested routes later on.

Met Police do bike safe from the Warren in Hayes and use roads around Edenbridge, Chiddingstone, Hever and North of Tunbridge Wells. Some good roads with views.
