Labour Party Revolt
Discussion
As 70 MPs need to agree with this newly-sacked deputy-assistant-nearly-not quite-a-whip (or whatever) MP-ess to trigger a leadership contest, the chances are remote but not zero - however the turmoil in nu labia now presenting as not just a disunited but a diintegratring party will add to the margin of their election defeat. Which is nice.

Agreed, but this is the next best thing shirley?
For goodness sake, can we all start spelling "surely" the right way now? The "shirley" joke is so hackneyed by now.Edited by fatboy b on Saturday 13th September 10:10
As for Gordo, there is no doubt he is in big trouble. The back benchers are getting very edgy and the front benchers are beginning to thread very carefully. Their loyalty to Gordo will only remain until a credible alternative emerges.
I wonder does Labour have the equivalent of any "hockey moms" lurking (I dread the thought, to be honest).

So are they going to stitch Gordo up?Edited by fatboy b on Saturday 13th September 10:18
The most likely scenario is that Labour tear themselves apart internally. The two wings of the party hate each other and open warfare always bubbles just below the surface.
This should lead to them being annihilated at the next election. In politics it is called going Canadian. This would leave the LibDems as the second party in Britain.
My friend, a very highly placed civil servant who deals with ministers daily, says they are totally finished as a political force and that Brown is just running round like a frightened rabbit. The country no longer has an effective or working political leadership.

I have some dealings too with the Civil Service, basically they are actually running the country. I'm told the enmity between members of the Cabinet is such that the Government is totally dysfunctional, many of them are simply not on speaking terms with each other.
If the likes of Frank Field start to back this motion, then many other backbenchers will follow suit.
They have 300+ MPs, controlling that lot is going to be one massive tall order. Especially those with 'marginal' seats facing losing their jobs.
As for Labour as a political party, they are exactly in the same boat as the Tories post-Thatcher, they are going to rip themselves to pieces.
And hopefully out of power for 20 years.
That woman made a right tit of herself on the news last night - I've never seen someone come across as quite such a blithering idiot. I think it's safe to say that she can kiss goodbye to her job, but then again I think it's safe to say that the pretty entire Labour Party can do the same, come the next general election.
