Maserati 4200 / 3200 ownership
Discussion
Hi
Please can anyone tell me what the servicing and maintenance costs are for the 4200 or earlier 3200 GT models... for example how much would a full service be (at a specialist not a dealer), how much for an average regular service and how frequently does it need servicing -eg. every 5000 miles or more?
Thanks for any help and info.

Hi Matt,
Don't confuse the two, they are very different cars which look similar. Running costs will be similar for both (possibly a little higher for a 3200 dependent on the condition/individual car).
A 3200 is serviced every 12k miles, belts every 3years/36k miles and chains every 64k miles.
Small service from an indie will be approx £500, full service inc belts will be approx £1000. Similar for a 4200? someone with one will be along shortly I'm sure.
4200 is a little more civilised but lacks the turbo fun and tail lights. Build quality is allegedly better on a 4200 but my 3200 has had no problems and hasn't rusted or left me stranded over the 8 years I've had it. I guess there are poor and good cars of all models/manufacaturers. Fuel consumption for mine is approx 15 - 20 mpg.
As previous poster said, there is loads of info about these on various sites and a few hours reading will be well spent time, but remember that opinions are not facts and the posters will be biased (as I am!) towards their own model.
Find the right one and you'll not regret it.

Auto has a torque convertor so no clutch. Mine is an auto and has been no trouble. There was/is an issue with crankshaft end float on manuals which means a pretty big fix but certainly doesn't affect all cars. I may be wrong here, I think it seems to only affect cars which have had engine oil other than the specified selena racing oil. I'm sure you will come across this mentioned in some of the search's you have done.
other things to check are the last exhaust box on 3200's although most will have had stainless ones fitted now. Ensure that the red key is present. A common rust area is the lip of the boot but hasn't affected mine.
As your in sussex I'm quite close too you, if you fancy a close up nose around a 3200 and/or a chat, im in dartford, and would be happy for you to take a close look. If you would like to, PM me through my profile.
