After a moment of madness this week I bought a 1967 V8 273 Plymouth Barracuda smile I had checked her out and all was well until the 3 1/2 hour 200mile drive back to Huddersfield turned into a 7 hour crawl in floods, but the old girl looked after me and we got home in one piece.

Sat morning in the sunshine I had to go and show her to a friend 6-7 miles away, on the way back POP all stopped and to cut a long story short she is now in storage with a blown head gasket!

Since I've spent just about everything I have on her and since I'm disabled and have very little mechanical knowledge I can't imagine myself being able to do the job, So this is really a cry for help! Does anyone on here rebuild engines? Or can you recommend anyone in the Huddersfield area who can get me up and running without breaking the bank?

From what I have read, replacing the gaskets means having the heads tested and skimmed?, new bolts torque in etc?

If anyone can offer advice, and a ball park figure of a job like this I would be very grateful.

Cheers. Ian.

Yorkshire is a hive of Mopar activity so you should be able to find someone fairly local who'll be able to help you out with this I'm sure.

I'd start by calling Dave Billadeau. Contact details are on his website

If you can why not join the MMA, Mopar Muscle Association, www.moparuk.com . The web forum is a mine of useful info with loads of knowledgable and experienced people. They have a great club mag too, I'm the editor so am a bit biased!!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, I did have a head gasket changed on an old straight six Chevy I owned years ago and a head skin wasn't needed. Seem to remember it was only ally heads that need to be skimmed. Could be wrong though.

Hope you get it all sorted.

There was a 273 engine for free on the MMA website, or you can buy the larger 318's for peanuts and it's a straight swap.
If you dont sort it, pm me i know someone who may have an engine and he will probably fit it for a reasonable price.
273, 318 s are not perf engines but they can normally take a lot of abuse
