Its a repeat of the London Freewheel thing that Ken Livingstone started last year - basically close off loads of famous London roads so cyclists can have a nice troublefree ride around the capital.

Same as last year I think. Was really good last year, sun was shining for a change. Roads were closed from London Bridge, along the Embankment to Parliament Square and round to The Mall and St James Park. There were stalls with food and cycling stuff along The Mall. Thousands of cyclists, a real family day, safe for the kids with no traffic.
They also have groups riding in from about four different points in the capital which you could join to get there.
Just hope weather is good.

Unfortunately, people seemed to use the opportunity to teach their kids how to ride a bike or pay even less attention than normal. I found it very frustrating with people showing very little consideration for others or any idea on what is going on around them.

Good idea though. Needs some polishing though.

Except for ~25,000 cyclists, 24,999 of whom were deriving endless pleasure from ringing their bells all-f*cking-day.
The ride to the event and back home was much better IMO.

...although, yes I'm going to attend this year

I am planning on going. It was a lot of fun last year and the area is supposed to be much bigger this year. Might I suggest a PH cycle hoon?! Maybe all meet by one of the entrance points or by the Tower?

So basically you are going for a bike ride with no cars around?
Isnt that what happens on a mountain bike anyway?

On the 21st I will be going for a ride with a few good friends, with no traffic, without a thausand others to get in the way, no one will try and sell crap to me, no pedestrians and it will be more than 4-5 miles long. The air will be fresh and the views will be stunning. My dog will be with me for great company.

I wont have to travel 2 hours of boring motorways, fight to park, if I was I would go to wales and have the ride you never forget.

I quite fancy taking the wife & kids (in a trailer) to this.

Does anyone know the best place to park from the North - without having to use trains / cycle in the traffic?

Great. So no one can get where they need to go for a day.

Hey Soovy, you should have come along for a ride, might have taken your mind of the price of Pork futures hehe

Got there at 9.30 and did a couple of circuits from Buck House up to Trafalgar Square, down Northumberland Avenue to the river, and then all the way along to the Tower. Gave up after that as it was already getting crowded with those who only ride a bike once a year and lots of little kids weaving all over the place. A few shaven leg nutters were zooming in and out of that lot, so at that point I decided it would be better to clear off home before I got caught up in someone else's pile up.

I went down with the family. Took the kids in a trailer & had a great time. We had stayed over near the Ravenscourt hub and went in at circa 9 and left at 3. Covered 25 miles, which considering the wife is a fair weather cyclist wasn't too bad!

Delighted you all had a great time.

It took me two hours to get from Richmond to the City, with my Mum in the car needing the loo.

Quite why it's necessary to close down one of the biggest cities in the world so that a few cyclists can have a day out is beyond me.

Oh, and I hope the child that I saw upside down in its trailer being dragged along on the roof was OK after it's dozey bearded father clipped a kerb and flipped it over. BUY A RANGE ROVER AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILDREN YOU COCKTARD!!

I'm sure you accept it was worth it so that a minority, vulnerable group of road users could have an opportunity to enjoy the capital.

Revel in that warm, fuzzy feeling.
