So what do we think of this new After You Claude racing?

I mean, it's brand new, isn't it? Despite everybody saying that the rules at Spa were perfectly clear, we've simply never seen so many drivers handing so many positions back.
So, do we like it? We'll probably not see it in any other form of motorsport, but who knows? I think it'll be fine for the Buttons, Fisis and Trullis on the grid, who don't really want to push their luck in a race anyhow and are just fine with being paid millions for what they do. But it's going to cause problems for the true racers, i feel.
Maybe though, that's the way it's got to be, from now on. The sport maybe hasn't been completely and totally ruined, and it gives scope for the FIA to really control the championship.
Are we going to put up with it for long though? Will the fans be able to understand what's going on? Will the drivers be able to contact each other by radio?

I'm glad i'm old. I'm glad i was around when the true warriors could fight it out like the proper hard men they were. The ufoufo's of this site can enjoy this new modern method of racing, but by gum i know what i prefer.
Going to the Goodwood Revival next weekend, it'll be good to see some proper motor racing.

There is no way on god's earth that there was anything wrong with that, yet everybody's like "oh my god was that a touch too much kerb, does that constitute cutting a chicane, we don't know but just play safe and give it back anyway".If Hamiltons misdemeanour at Spa was so clear cut, and so deserving of a penalty, why oh why haven't we seen all this handing back crap to this degree before?!

no way did Massa cut the chicane, handing the place back was just riddiculus...
they should put the stewards in the middle of the chicanes, if you hit them, then you get a penalty!

Much as I hate to say it I thing JA was right or at least I hope he was right. That will be a first!As the OP said it was pathetic today to see driver just touching the curbs and then giving back the position.
Lewis did it when trying to overtake Massa, I wonder what better racing we would have seen if Massa had to race Lewis to take the place back?
A major factor in all this is the development of circuits that feature Tesco sized car-park run-off areas at just about every bend or chicane - ridiculous, more like a driving experience day than a racetrack! Quite simply if a competitor goes off the circuit line then the design and layout of the circuit should significantly punish lap time, i.e. by ensuring that the route to rejoining the circuit is MUCH slower (and potentially not assured)than following the track! Kerbs need to be nastier, and smooth tarmac corner cutting routes need to be taken out - obvious. Expecting a racing driver under pressure NOT to leave the circuit if there is no major loss in lap time (and in some situations may actually present real benefit - Spa LH ?) is simply unrealistic - not racing.

Massas pass on Rosberg was totally fair, but he ended up giving the place back. It's become a farce.

This is exactly the problem - there need to be clear cut rules - whatever they are (I don't agree with them, but that is another story all together), and for a whole season stick to those rules.Obviously if new rules are introduced through the season, that has to have some form of official method of giving this info to the drivers/teams/fans, but i do think that having the attitude of "it will be forgotten about in a few races" could well turn this "racing" into a farce. The reason for this is that the rules dont change, but their implementation does throughout a season. Surely this is not good??

Bit silly really. The drivers must be on the radio after every overtake asking if that one was ok. Going to be interesting next year, overtaking should be easier.
I guess if we wanted to watch overtaking by any means possible then we watch touring cars, F1 cars aren't really built for that type of racing and there a bit too expensive to be driven in that manner, I do love it when theres a massive crash though and the cars self destruct.

Ban riding the kerbs altogether. They should have to keep all four wheels on the grey stuff, BTCC are the worst for it, but F1 comes a close second.
The way they were cutting those chicanes in Monza was ridiculous. Everyone was doing it, so no one was getting an advantage but I don't think they should be allowed to cut that much.

mclaren are much better at designing cars that can ride the kerbs than the red team!
