Hi guys,

On my way to buying my first 360.

Test drove a manual and an F1 over the weekend, at the moment I'm leaning towards a F1 car.

When pulling off from a standstill in 1st, the revs would rise a fair bit (circa 1500rpm) before there was any forward motion, similar to a manual clutch slipping.

The dealer tells me its normal, I wasn't convinced but then its the only F1 I've driven.

Can any F1 owners confirm or deny?

Thanks

They do tend do that a bit, particularly when cold. Mine just needed the biting point/pressure point adjusting. It can also indicate a wearing clutch.

It shouldn't do it if you are rolling slowly though.

Just ask them for a print out of the clutch wear, this will tell you the condition of it

Is this print out available for manuals and F1s?

If buying privately this won't really be an option however.

Thanks for your post- however, I am also considering a 360 (and also merits of F430 too), but this isn't sounding too good- as when I test-drove a manual I thought it was terrible, nasty notchy change. Hence I was hoping that the F1 might be a lot more positive, but bearing in mind your comments it sounds like box gearboxes are flawed...

Someone please tell me we just drove bad examples?!!!?

I think you may have misinterpreted my post.

I liked the manual, very smooth, dealer did say they had just changed the linkages or something? Maybe that needed doing on the one you drove.

I just found the F1 suited me better, really quick changes and the downshifting is addictive. Was just wondering if the rise of revs before movement was normal at standstill.

You can only get the print out for F1 cars it shows the wear % plus number of times each gear has been selected etc

I had manual 360 Spider and preferred it to the F1 at that time (2002 car) but now have F1 on a Srad and like it alot

The early 360 F1's were a bit clumsy due to not being able to be set up so well. The later 360 F1 cars had different ECUs so could be set-up better (with the SD2/3 machine from memory, me thinks) I just lived with it, and resisted the temptation to have the dealer upgrade the ECU etc. Speak to a Ferrari dealer and find out what the year change was, and bear that in mind when viewing/test driving. Conversely, the dealer was lying to me smile To be sure, check with Rob at Grimaldi engineering, if you will, as he knows his eggs.

Regardless of that, the F1 set-up will take some time to get used to, before it can be judged effectively against a manual for a 'newbie'.

Nish, i have a F360 F1. The car is as user friendly to drive as a vw golf. There shud be no nonsense about high revs at pull off or slow gear changes etc etc. The only time they are a dog is when engine is either very cold or hasnt been driven for a few days.

I have no issues with the F1 gear change speed although they are considered slow by purists (who think thet are m schumacher :-)). But this can be upgraded for as little as £500 from a geezer in Crewe called trev who has a Stradale.

Now you shud try the paddle shift on a AMVanquish, It is truly shocking.
