I've got the opportunity to buy one of the last ones built, new sitting in the dealer showroom, at a good price. Would mean chopping in the Spyder and having it alongside my other manual SL. The "hitch" is, it is e-gear.

My abiding memory of e-gear is that it isn't nice in traffic - creeping car and smelling clutches. Has anybody lived with an e-gear SL for a while, please regale me with stories of how foolish I have been to discount them up to now.

This one really is calling me - yellow, with that tasteful rear wing and a fire extinguisher for heaven's sake! (although andrew, it doesn't have satnav or radio)

It took me 1.5 hours to get round the M25 from the M4 to the A3 last night - and the e-gear worked fine

The only thing I find with the SL e-gear is thats it's really hard to get the car the reverse smoothly - it tends to jump a bit

Thanks. I'll give it a thorough test later and see how it goes

7k miles in 9 months

no clutch issues after three hours in traffic
no issues engaging reverse
still getting some clunky shifts up/down in the lower gears
leaping out the garage at 30mph solved by waiting 30 seconds ( with the windows closed ! ) for the idle speed to drop
don't like automatic
avoid letting the car downshift automatically when you're in manual mode because sometimes car and driver downshift simultaneously : result is two gears and a loud throttle blip, car is ok but driver gets surprised
don't like hill starts
wish it would default to sport mode because that's smoother
blips on the downshifts are still bloody hilarious

on balance, yes
hth, a

Do you have to put yours into 1st gear first before reverse will work sometimes? Especially if on a small slant?

It's just when it's cold and I'm getting it out of the garage
I probably just need to let the car warm up a bit first, problem is I'm always trying to rush out before the car wakes up the rest of the family

Oh ok, I was having issues with the reverse gear. But just seemed to be on small slopes, not when it was cold.

The only problem I would have is when the gearbox would automatically change from 2nd to 1st whilst decelerating to a low speed. It would clunk/jerk into 1st rather than a smoothly change. It just seemed like a software glitch.

Thanks everybody...in particular will check reverse when at the dealership and the car is still cold, and also possible software update.
