I have noticed that a standardish Skyline R33 GTR is now starting to get down to £5000 - £6500 which is a price band that I could possable afford. So it's time to start doing some research into these great cars. So first off does anyone know what V-Spec means and what do you get?

V Spec = Victory Specification.

Spec changes were lower, harder suspension and a faster ATTESA system/active LSD.

Join or search on the GTROC for lots more information ( www.gtr.co.uk). But be aware that very few R33 GTR's fall into your budget and to be frank the vast, vast majority of those will be crap.

I wouldnt buy ANY gtr skyline for that amount of money...they are not cheap cars to run at all!!

Same way I wouldnt buy a cheap Lotus Esprit, or a cheap RX-7!!

I would look at a good GTS with the GTR kit and some nice wheels, rather than a manky GTR if i were you mate!

Yeah they're all manky at that price. I had a really good look around and settled for a very clean relatively standard GTS and I love it. Decent RB26 goodness still carries a hefty premium.

Buy cheap, buy twice...

If you can't afford a good one, you definitely can't afford a bad one..

etc.. wink

As said a very good R33 GTS can be had for that or less and you wont be getting a fresh and about to die import.

Buy one that is already in the country preferably from a forum so you can look at the previous posts and see if its had any problems and get an idea of how it has been driven.

A GTR and a GTS are totally different to drive however the GTS once it has stage 1 mods will be as quick as the GTR and cheaper to run (slightly).

It will also be more lively whereas a GTR will feel more solid.

Good GTS
Bad GTR?

I know what I would pick.

Thank for all of your replies, I have started looking at both GTR's and GTS-T's. Something that I wasn't expecting was quite so much rust! There seems to be a real problem on the front strut tops that's for sure. I know that they don't put much underseal on the Jap only cars but I throught the first uk owners or inporters would have sealed them up appon arrival. Another thing I wasn't repecting is that R34 GTT are also available at £6500-7000. Any throughts on R33 GTS-T v R34 GTT?

There's any amount of bargain bin snotters been brought over, this is why prices have fallen quite dramatically imo. There's very rarely a genuine bargain to be had, and whilst they're cheap to buy they certainly aren't cheap to keep on the road, which is why so many poorly maintained examples are available along with lots of stories of people buying a supposedly bargain priced decent one then paying for engine rebuilds and so on not too far down the line.

I wouldn't pay 6 grand for an R32 GTR, never mind a 33.

I ran a well sorted manual R34GTT before my GTR and I am not sure I did not prefer the GTT. Great cars.

It sounds like a R33 GTR is a real mine field and possably more expensive than I had throught. It makes the R34 GTT even more appealing, mind you I am a little worried that the new GTR will effect the R34 prices early next year. I have had a 2001 WRX, will the R34 running costs be similer? I only do approx 5000 miles per year now.
