If i write a message and use the greater or lesser than signs i can preview the message and it allows whatever is between the two to act.But once submitted it ignores them

Hope i've explained that better

Im not too good at explaining

I know what you mean

Instead of the 'less than' sign, type '&' followed by 'lt' plus a semicolon. That's 4 characters with no spaces. (I had to explain it this way otherwise you'd have seen a less than sign )

The 'greater than' symbols will show up ok as they are.

Huh! It was working the other day when I posted some code for pies and his website.

Let's try this out (just testing here )

&+l+t+; = <

I was just messing around: I replaced the & with [& amp;] without the space

Yep, I need to implement a proper solution for < and > rather than the one quickly brought in when Bodo started messing with HTML in his posts

Ted, you must be talking about another Bodo - I can't imagine that I ever did something destructive

Would there be a possibility to exclude certain tags from having an effect on the code, ie. the string <body> replaced by something harmless? Strings like html tags do normally not appear in posts as contents, so there would be no handicap when posting; texts starting with < would be postable, as long as they don't have an excluded tag following.

The advantage in using html for contributors would be to creatively format their posts; ie. resizing images in order to make them smaller, individual colours, tables, alignment, ...
Naturally, I'd generously help in finding unadvantageous tags

Ted, how about:

messagetext=Replace(messagetext,"<","&lt;")
