when do you have to pay?
is it when you first list the item or it is when/if it sells?

You have to pay to list an item and then you pay more dependent on the final price your item sells for. I usually just pay it all in one go when they ask for it at the end of the month.

You pay a listing fee and a final value fee if/when the item sells. You get invoiced for them so no need to pay upfront this should clear things up:

they normally send me a bill, (in an email) at the end of the month I have tried selling/sold something. I can pay through paypal or online banking, I think there are a couple of other ways too. I assume this would be for everyone, hope helps

Both, you pay to list the item and when it sells you pay the final value fees! Which varies to how much the item sells for percentage wise. Then if they pay by paypal you have to pay their fees too!
