I have Dave Hins workshopmanual printed out. However I seem to miss a section "engine removal". Mine is a 4,2 AJP and I have to get engine and gearbox out to prepair the car for a enginetransplant.

Any tips?

Engine and box will come out in one, even if it has air con pulley. No need to remove exhaust manifolds or inlet. Remove both engine mounts from the engine and chassis, these get in the way otherwise.

If you've removed engines before you won't find it a problem.

Long reach engine crane helps, its quiet a distance to the engine from the front of the car. smile

How much have you done so far?

Obviously remove exhaust from cats back. Follow MadMarks guide for clutch change as a guide to removing the box.
Disconnect propshaft. BUT first make sure there are markings on the prop and prop to diff coupling, as they are balanced. If there aren't any markings, use some tippex to make a line crossing the prop end and coupler, so you can line them up when re assembly time comes.

Remove all necessary pipework, starter motor leads, etc. Once all the bits are unplugged and pulled off, its a pretty easy job.

That'll do ya for starters. Sure I've missed some, but I'm shattered and ready to drop. Someone else will be along soon to fill in the blanks.

Have fun smile

Take lots of photos first of as much as possible (even the difficult to get to bits) as these will help if re-using components in the future.

You dont really need to do even that much

Undertray off
Exhaust off (From cats)
Prop shaft off
Coolant pipes off
Wirring harness dissconected
Fuel pipes off
One oild pipe to disconect
Clutch fluid line
Gearbox mounts
engine mounts
Air con pipes if you have it

Then all should lift out as one large unit inc gearbox.

We have it down to about 1hr 30 minutes out 2 hours back in.

Thanks for the info guys. Where do I attache the rope best to pull it out??

Caduceus and others who are interested:

I haven't touched it yet, but will do not very long from now. I do however also have a bathroom/toilet brakeout to do this year, so enough on the programm. In short my plan is to get the engine and gearbox unit out of the car. Do a chassis refurb. Posted a thread also how to lift the body without scratching the body with as little people possible and get it back on.

After this job, I hope a ls engine has arrived. Then I will put the lot on a trailer and take the ferry to the UK. When it's ready I hope to have sold the 4.2ltr AJP and can drive back with a reliable Cerb that can be serviced by myself or any other workshop of my choice here in the Netherlands.

So wish me luck. I do have experience in restoring a Triumph TR6, but that is more than 16 years ago. My fahter has a excellent garage equipped to do these things. Bad thing is he doesn't like TVR's (??????). So he will only pass me a screwdriver every once in a while and he told me I have to sort it out myself. And so I will, because there is nothing like a Cerbera!!
