Things that are cheaper, but better?
Discussion
Was eating some Sainsbury's own brand Jaffa Cakes the other day, and they tasted like arse. Got me thinking what products are cheaper but better. Couldn't really think of any. Not just food related.
Think the old addage "you get what you pay for" is generally quite true. Or is it? Discuss.

In many cases no, it isn't. Bose, for example. Or Volkswagen
How can I educate them?

Cheap speaker cabinets with minimal internal bracing, cheap woods and materials, cheap paper-coned drivers, cheap crossover circuitry. It's just marketing b
ks, really. That's how they sell.Their "PA" (pub music) equipment is adequate, but you can't really associate that with sound quality

Good old JBL any day.
Been very happy with Bose stuff.
The stereo in my dad's Audi is fantastic, the Lifestyle 28 surround system is very good and the soundock for my iPhone is ace!
Generally if I was bothered about buying something I would do a bit of research before buying. i.e. When I recently bought a D SLR I did some homework, but I didn't when I bought cheese

I've heard a couple of Bose car setups and am not convinced that there's much merit over my Pioneer DEH-P7000UB, JBL subwoofer (not just set up for maximum noise, either) and stock Honda speakers, either. My mate has a Bose surround, and it's been in for repairs twice in the last year, and isn't as nice sounding as my Kef / Yamaha / Samsung separate system that cost less than half.
netto and aldi fruit and veg is better than the leading brands such as tesco etc
all come from the same place and are all the same stuff .
i try anything out and shop at aldi and netto and to be honest most of its the same , there is stuff to stay away from and only by the named brands but some stuff is pretty good and i save on avrage of 100quid a month by shoping there

Blended whiskies are better than single malts.
The whole idea of the blending is to cover the deficiencies of each malt and to make the most of their good points.
Single malts are far more one dimensional than blends and far more demanding of the drinker.
Bells 10 year old is a better drink than most malts.
Also with Jonnie Walker the Red, Black and Blue labels are not progressively better than each other. They are just different. I have all three of them open here now.
Macallan charge a fortune for their older malts. Glenfarclas is just up the road in Speyside and makes a very similar tipple sold at many ages at far more reasonable prices. I have a bottle of their 21 year old.

Restaurant food! Spend about £15-£20 on a dish in a good restaurant, and you'll get a good plate full of quality and tasty food. Spend double that in some super swanky high class place and you'll be lucky to have a thimble full of unrecognisable s
t that someone has seen fit to stack it in a pile, and drizzle some mess all over it and the ludicrously enormous plate.
Food:

Not food - overpriced muck that would lead to getting something to eat on the way home from the meal as you'd be hungry:
