Hi.
My mate is starting to research 190 SLs with a view to buying the right car.
I know these cars have appreciated quite a bit in the last few years. But what price for a minter versus a decent runner? Is there a good on-line resource for these cars?

Hi,
190 SLs are quite complicated, far away from rocksolid mercedes quality and expensive to repair.
If you are into 190 SLs you know this anyway, if not get a specialst to check it for you.
Important to check for original engine and working Solex Carbs.
As they originally had no rust protection all of them are already
restored minimum once. There are many items of skillful plasterwork around.
Depending on condition and originality prices are from 20.000 to 150.000,--.
Like always you will get what you pay.
Look also out for nice chrome, as the shiny bits are extremely expensive
(frontbumper and front is same as used on 300 Gullwing also same horrendous price)
It is a very beautiful solid and comfortable car with very good suspension,
the 4 cylinder engine is a bit disapointing at least in sound.
Good news is you can get all parts, but costly.

Good luck,

Martin

Thanks JC and Griffithy.

This car looks really nice and quite close to where my mate lives:
