They are TVR only and not from another car, but any rack refurb centre can do it! A new one will cost £1,000 plus.

Gotta do this to mine too. Waiting for the weather to get bad enough such that I won't want to drive my car before taking the rack out

Just had mine done. Didn't use Greenwich though, as when I phoned them up for advice on seals, they as good as put the phone down on me. So I took my money somewhere else.

Couldn't find anyone else. Unfortunately we live in a arse about face world. Whenever I tried to purchase the seals I was met with constenation, and advice that it would be impossible to do as a home mechanic. In other words everyone as good as refused.

When you call greenwich they give themselves a super get out jail free card. They warn you that if you give them your rack and they can't get the end off, the rack may be buggered through no fault of theirs while they try. In other words if they ring you a day later and tell you they've buggered your rack it isn't their fault.

What we need is a ginea pig rack so we can see how its put together and how not to bugger it. Anyone got an exploded diagram?

Great eh!

Have a chat with Andy at APM he uses a man local to him and got the rack done for my old V8S for not a lot. I'm sure he'll have a similar arrangement for the Cerb too.

Lots of interest in Rack overhaul. Are you all suffering with loss of fluid past seals and hence out into the Tie-rod Gators? Or are there other issues here?

Got another 2 race meetings to attend yet. Also i will have a new engine to put in by then!

So do you have some spare workshop space mid November???

Last race of the year will be in the GT Cup on the 9th of November (Give the Ferraris and Porshes somthing to worry about!)

Cheers

Only too happy to see a 2 hour engine removal. Besides, you've cheered me up no end with your antics on the track.

Give me a yell when you're ready and I'll make space.

Sorry off topic, but, Julian is yours a 4 post lift?

I ask as I'm getting 'interesting' noises coming from mine but only when it's on it's wheels.

I know my tyres rub but I'd be interested to see if anything else is ok. I know some clearances are very tight. biggrin

I thought you'd already done a rack rebuild julian? wasn't it you talking about the fragile quill shaft?

Yep, twas me but the quill shaft is sitting on top of the rack, and actually pulls out of the rack from the top. under the big three bolt plate. The whole lot comes out, and you stare down at the big hole and the horizontal rack from there.

Never pulled the rack lower internals apart, or even taken it out of the car. Till now

TT, its a two post, but for wheels I stick the car in the air and use the transmission jack to slowly hoik up a wheel. By doing this you can pretty much put all the weight of the entire car on one wheel should you really want.
