I have some MDF cabinets that have been made for my bathroom that need painting. I've read about people spraying these in car paint and I have even got a sample done that looks pretty good.

However, I know that MDF and water is not a good combination. I have already used MR-MDF but I have been advised that they need to be properly sealed before painting.

I have read a bit about this but there seem so many options so I'd appreciate the advice of the all-knowing PH collective.

Sealing:

- Two pack wood filler
- Dilute PVA
- MDF Primer
- PU Primer

Painting:

- Acrylic 2K
- PU Lacquer

I made the bathroom at our last place out of MDF, just used cellulose primer followed by cellulose paint on top - stayed perfect for the 4 years we were there and I have no reason to expect it isn't still!

Give that a try...

Infact, screfix sell it as well

PVA, then depending on what the usuage is, taking into consideration wear, i'd be more inclined to use UV lacquer as its much stronger than the normal stuff. You will however need a UV lamp to ensure it goes off, otherwise it'll just stay wet.

I've tried PVA which works a treat. Until you start chipping/knocking it...

Use MDF primer - job done.
