Evening folks,

I've been looking at a nice iPod dock for a while now.. but i've not come across a place where i can try all the ones i've been looking at back to back. So i need you to help me weed out the ones i've been looking at.

My old man has got a bose one, which i wasn't overly impressed with.

My personal favourite so far is the B&W Zepellin, but i've not yet heard one. I've also been hovering over a Fatman Red-I and then looking at associated...

What else is out there is hould be looking at?

You're already considering the best option in the Zep. It really is that good!

I really do like the warmness of the tubes on the Fatman, but I felt that the Zepp was probably the better product.

Have to admit that I chickened out at the end, and bought neither.

Or one of these http://www.sieben-technology.com/uk/home.htm leaving £360 for an amp and some speaker which will be much better than those built into the dock. Not quite as portable a solution mind you...

I like to hear music with a wider range than a fixed dock offers. So when It's not plugged in through our NAD amplifier and Kef speakers in the main room, I have it fed out through these....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001W8EF...

Anyone I've cranked them up for has been shocked how good/huge the sound quality is.

Downside- Won't charge your Ipod.

i appreciate i can probably get a better sound from a dedicated stereo or amp setup like the fatman, but i need something which won't look too much like a hifi with all the wires etc..

The HK speakers all seem very good in the land rover / range rovers, but ideally i'd need it to charge too.

so far the B&W wins then? no other docks worth competing against?

If you don't like the Bose the B&W would be my choice.

I have a potable Bose dock and it is fantastic plus I can use it easily anywhere.

I bought a Zeppelin 3 weeks ago..

It's only £100 more than the Bose, but sounds so much better IMO...

Looks better too..

Very happy with it.

apple stores tend to display a fair few of them.

Also not all of them are iphone compatible, may be worth getting one that is, so that it is future proofed if you need to sell, or buy an iphone.

If you fancy something a bit special I can highly recommend the Vita R4. Its not just a dock but also DAB, AM/FM, USB , CD

Just google Vita R4. Retail is around £499.00 but you might find it for less.
