SWMBO had a bump in her Rover Streetwise a couple of weeks ago. Smashing little car, very comfortable, nice seats quite nippy not quite as loud as GERALD!!!!!!. Four years old 17k miles but the insurance company have written it off as parts are very difficult to get (back panel on indefinate backorder) we have been offered £4k, not bad thats what we paid a year ago for the car.
Now the challenge
What to replace it with,
must be practical SWMBO tootles off to London to see the grandchild and commutes so I'm looking for bright ideas (please note must be suitable to tell her) TVRs are out I'm affraid.
Lets be having the ideas then, best idea thats not rude will get a pint (or two
) at SCH 2009

I agree - something Jap for the reliability, a little Mazda, Honda Jazz or something.Go to the dealer at the end of the month and make them a stupid offer - if they are off their target you'd be amazed what they will take.

If the bump is not too bad i'd take the 4K, keep the car as the insurance company have absolutely no right to it, They may then demand 10% back which you then pay them, meaning your £3600 up with the car, wait until a similar one turns up at a breakers, buy the parts for peanuts and left with about £2500 to spend on the Tiv and your old car still. Its worth 25% less due to being a cat C or D but after a few years that will equate for virtually nothing.

IIRC Catapillar bought the old AR parts opperation.
I was told that all parts were available but body panels took a long time as they waited until they had enough outstanding orders before running a batch off the presses.
If you wanted to keep the car you could try ringing all the old MG dealers.

Actually - joking aside - a 1600M will do well over 30mpg, classic insurance is next to nothing and you could get one that's just about tax exempt.
Besides that? MX5?
