Hi all

We are looking for a 3200gt and found this on the topmarques website.

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_popup.js...

Its a nice looking car but wanted to check with you guys as to the ability of the 3200 in auto as a day to day car ? Is this a good price ? What would trade be on this car ? e.g £8,000?

It looks like a nice colour combination but wanted to hear from the experienced owners on here as to what they would offer etc if in the market now and is the auto box smooth / rough etc .

Thanks for your help guys

Box is fine on the GT, I think you will find that dealers are taking much thinner margins on cars at the moment so I wouldnt have thought they would have a £5K start in that one.

wow - depreciation is making these silly money now. If you have full NCD, why buy that one year old mundaneo? Get a masser 3200 Auto as your daily stter!
Go for it you will not regret it, think of all those clubcard points for fuel.

The autobox is very smooth on the 3200. It really is good and yes the car can be used regularly so long as you remember to budget £1-2k a year for maintenance. They need an experienced hand to look after them. If they are well serviced they are honest motors. Re. the price of a red/cream 3200 with 66k on the clock, that fits into the high mileage/undesireable colour combo in my opinion. Remember there is an engine out chain job looming on that car, and most people will be weary of that. So the asking price is a fair one. Before the 'credit crunch' such 3200's were slipping sub £15k. So that car at £13k sits in line with the current financial climate. I doubt you'll knick it for a cheeky bid of £10k. No doubt these are tricky financial times BUT I don't think there are many people wandering round who can say they just bought a sub 40k 3200 for under £15k retail. I think people are confusing the fact that high mileage, baggy 3200's are getting old now too, so the prices are reflecting that. With the preceeding Ghibli GT's now ducking under £10k this was always going to happen.

I think it is easy to pick up a high mileage 3200 in an undesirable colour combo (which that car is in my opinion) for £12k all day long. Check autotrader etc: there a fair few manky 3200's for sale at that price every other week - patchy history, badly maintained etc. But the cost of getting them 100% could end up being thousands - easily. And resale in a year could be a pain. Remember, regardless of the financial climate £12k is considered just about enough to buy a sh*ter in 3200 circles. So I would say look at the better examples and buy the best you can for £15-16k. That is where I think the bargains can be snapped up. The £18-19k cars are bound to lose money, but at £15-16k I think you will be in good shape come resale time.

To my eyes (and yes colour is subjective) red with cream just does not flatter the 3200. I equally think that on the 4200/GS/Ferrari 550. However, I wouldn't normally mention it as that is purely my opinion HOWEVER there are those in the trade whom I have spoken to while generally chit cahtting whom have said the same re. Masers, hence I wanted to mention it to you. Don't shoot the mesenger please smile There is a large following for that combo in Fezza circles (re-sale red) always will be, but not as strong in Maser circles. Not many red QP's around with cream, if you get my point. These are understated tourers after all. Ultimately, though it comes down to what you feel comfortable driving. I once had a silver with blue 308 GT4 and thought it looked ace. My pal's disagreed. Hey ho.

Thats a Fair Point runway.
Silver does look good in the 3200 as does black but silver with red leather looks great imo.
I do like the red with creme though.

Thanks for taking the time to post Runway78.

In my experience (2 Years of ownership, 32000 to 44000 miles), that's light, though I used main dealers and spared no expense when stuff needed doing.

From memory.. Pair of backboxes - £1200.
Clutch (Mine was manual) - £1000 to £1500.

If you're going to get one, get it checked over first. Check the Maser forum for advice. **
Loved every minute of mine. Fantastic car.

My thoughts too, now silver with navy blue; that's painful.

I had a 3200GT (A) for 3 years, and commuted it every day come rain or shine. Its a very nice car to drive up to 7/10ths, after that its a horror show.

On average I must have spent about £750 a year.

One thing, do not be tempted by an aftermarket exhaust. I had one fitted and the car boomed at low speed making the commute unbearable....cannot remeber the name of the maker...Silversomething I think...

I prefer the 3200 to the 4200 anyway, don't like the Vauxhall lights on the 4200. Good luck with your purchase...
