can anyone shed any light on the annoying practice that seems to be turning into a plague of pulling up to a junction/ roundabout etc and stopping about 10-14 foot off the line, mainly women it seems to be getting into epidemic proportions where i live.
is anyone else experiencing this.
its worse than the one a few years ago where people would repeatedly fash thier brake lights before finally applying them when slowing down or stopping.

no its been around for a while unfortunatly...

my worst pet hate is the f**kers who creep toward a red traffic light with the induction loop sensors in the road. Stupid s dont realise that they will not trigger it until they hit the line!!!!!

Following a slow (30mph max) trailer on the A4074 (Oxford-Reading) road today.

About 20 cars back, so no chance myself of overtaking - there's a 2-3 mile WIDE stretch where the local council have put in a hatched centre zone with broken lines.

All 20 cars could have passed - result was that none did. No one knew the law

So later on we had VERY dangerous behaviour with shorter stretches were people tried overtaking from the back.

I hate that too. It happens a lot around where I live.
It's usually some clueless old git that doesn't know how traffic lights work.

My pet hate are the muppets that come up to a T junction to turn right. They take up all the road by approaching from left hand side of the road and swinging the front of the car accross to to the right at the last second, cleverly blocking off the whole approach to the T, and preventing other cars filtering left.

The other annoying fashion is the one where complete brain donors for some reason when turning left take their hands off the steering wheel and grasp it from the inside. They manage to turn the wheel at best about 1/4 turn before releasing their grip and turning the wheel in a normal way after that.

Lord knows where that fashion emerged from, but its fairly recent (last 3 -4 years) and totally pointless.

I thought that the 'slow' vehicle had to be doing less than 10 MPH _and_ be a road construction / maintenance vehicle (or a cyclist) before you could cross, or am I thinking about solid whites?

In addition to the above, my pet hates (at junctions I use frequently) are:

a) Drivers (of all ages and both sexes) turning right from the major road who think it's OK to cut digonally across the 'Give Way' line ... even when I'm approaching the junction on the minor road to turn right and therefore am hugging the centre line (contrary to andygo's hate above). I've had them blast their horns and gesture using various numbers of fingers as if they're in the right.

b) People (often older drivers and female drivers) turning left into a minor road (or their drives) who are incapable of turning the steering wheel sufficiently quickly to accomplish the manoever without straying on the opposite side of the road (of course, they might well be using the technique highlighted by andygo above). And most of the cars have power steering!

c) Drivers (of all ages and both sexes) who pull in front of me in the outer lane approaching traffic signals on a dual carriageway where the outer lane filters into the inner or middle lane after the traffic signals ... and then dawdle away from the lights. I know I can beat most of the cars away from the lights and there's no need for them to change lanes at the last moment.

d) Drivers (usually young males) who charge up the outside lane of the motorway until they see the 100 yards to go sign for the exit, then cut across the middle and inside lanes to exit ... usually without indicating and at unabated speed.

e) Drivers (of all ages and both sexes) who stop (or nearly so) with their left-hand indicator flashing on a roundabout because they've reached their exit and they're still in the right-hand lane. It's a roundabout! Go round again ... and get it right this time!

f) Drivers (of all ages and both sexes) who approach a junction on the minor road, look quickly at me rushing towards them with no-one behind me on the major road, then pull out in front of me and drive slowly along.

That'll do for now!

Streaky, it's fine to hug the centre line - I agree with you. What annoys me are the berks that want to use the whole width of the road to turn right, therefore blocking the left lane as well.

Coundn't agree more, it's the latest swiss thing. As soon as they arrive in Germany they drive like Cnuts and block any junction by putting their cars deliberately wide or even at an angle!!!! or even pull out in front of you and drive provocativly slow, and if you "beep" them they stop and gesticulate.... needless to say there has been some gesticulating with fists and noses sometimes (not guilty m'lud! although I've often felt like doing it))
