I've just been reading the specs, downloading the sample photos and movies and all I can say is "wow".
Totally pointless, but given half the chance, if I go to the states, this WILL be my next purchase. The good thing for me is that it's highly unlikely I'll go to the states for the next 2 years at very least so I won't be buying it over here.
I'm waiting for the Mark III which should hopefully be released in another 2-3 years when I decide to upgrade my 40D....
In the meantime though, I can't wait for it to hit the shops so I can have a good play about with it.

you have to laugh at the UK price
Looks good, only 3.9fps though?
Indeed .... £1500 in the US (and that's RRP!)

Remember the US price is pre TAX so generally you need to add 8% on to that. Then there're the costs on £ to $ rate convertion. It'll probably end up around £1670. Yes still cheaper but only a USA guaranty and fingers crossed they don't catch you at customs and add another 20% then 17.5% vat on all of that
.Yes, it's cheaper in the states but it's not a simple as it seems...

I really dont get this new lets put a HD Video option on camera's like this?
Same with the new Nikons.
Same here. Because they can I guess, the hardware's there, just the firmware to do it that needs writing. Personally I'd rather not have it and keep the sensor cooler (and therefore less noisy).Same with the new Nikons.

The sensors on these cameras are far superior to video camera sensors, and the range of lenses makes them a dream for short film makers or journalists.....

you do not need movie function on a Dslr
Why not????? And seriously....what difference does it make if it's there or not?
Traditionally, SLR's did not have movie modes because it was simply not possible. After all, they were film cameras and how on earth would it work?
DSLR's expand the realm of what's possible in previously this was perhaps not possible also due to technical limitations, but now with the new DIGIC 4 processor, users can have movies with their DSLR's using what is a fantastic range of lenses.
From where I'm sitting, I see this as evolution of the DSLR, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the 1D series will carry this too in future versions.
I really don't see why people are so up-tight about this!!!

to earn enough pennies to get a 1D MKIII
I still think the original 5D is a classic, kind of simple like a film camera. I wonder if all those extra megapixels really add any value? I like some of the other features, could even see me using the video function now and again
