I know there has been some discussion before, but I would like some current views on fitting a roll bar to my 450SE.

I need it as a safety point. I have no plans to race or as yet go on track days. It may look better in chrome rather than a powdered colour. I believe I need a simple roll bar with a couple of supporting struts into the chassis at the back. Several points have been made about extra noise from components like the fuel pump; this can be suppressed. Also, I understand that it will add some welcome stiffness to the chassis.

Your comments, views and pictures are welcome. Any recommended suppliers or manufacturers?

Regards ...

to get any strength you would have to mount to the top of the rear shock, and triangulate to the chassis near where the seat belts mount.

This would mean you would have bar's going though the back partition.

If you that worried about safety just keep the mullet up.

I know a few on here have roll bars fitted.
I'm sure Jason Vaughn has one?

I seem to recall that the bars can resonate with the cars vibrations. Irritating...possibly?

I've thought about having one fitted myself. the thought of rolling a wedge with no roof up doesn't bare thinking about!

Yep. I have had 2 infact....

excellent for roof off hooning, and imho looks good. Only downside is diff noice aboove 80 leptons with the roof up needs the radio on.
at 130 its unbearable for sustained periods.

assorted Pix here of mine.. Painted 2Pac mica blue metallic to match the car

There is rumour that Tower View have ceased trading. Roll Center (Stuart) will try and make contact. Any other suppliers?

Dave Wallis closed Tower View down in London but is working from his farm in Norfolk and has been continuing to supply and fit roll bars as well as doing servicing etc.
His no is 07768717443. He still owns the rights to the RollCentre bar.

PS I was talking to him last week.

Are they DIY, fit yourself jobs or would Dave from Tower View require the car for a number of days to fabricate and fit ?
I'm looking to get a rollbar for my 280i but it being off the road in bits also means getting it to Norfolk would be a challenge.
