The Salmon & Compasses at the end of Chapel Market was always good fun (I used to live above it though, so got to know the bar crew pretty well)
Go through the Mews houses on the right of Upper Street & take the path on to the canal & keep walking for 15 mins or so & there is a lovely pub down there.

There is a great Brazilian restaurant on Upper St (opposite the Slug and Lettuce) called "Rodizio Rico".
It combines a huge buffet running down the middle of the restaurant, with waiters regularly circulating, offering cuts of freshly coal-roasted steak, chicken and lamb. Occasionally they bring chicken hearts, which are apparently a Brazilian delicacy - and, I can confirm, after a little squeamishness, they taste bloody great.
Well worth a visit.

Moving there on Friday, had a few nights in the area and like it lots, and Fabric is merely a stones throw away
So can the PH massive please recommend me some bars/clubs/restaurants to go to/avoid in that area if you please?!
Can't recommend any bars, you seem to be sampling many

Nice one, you do know you are invading the Labour & Luvvie lefty Stronghold! I imagine many a labourite has dined and extrapolated how to feck over tax and subjugate there lowly serfs.
Ah, after being there 10 years I am just selling my place in Islington (Barnsbury) funnily enough, accepted an offer last week. You'll love the place.
I'd recommend:
Morgan M, on Liverpool Road (the opposite end to Angel) - best restaurant in Islington by far, and filled a gap in the higher end market since the White Onion and Granita disappeared.
Been going to Le Mercury (Upper St) for 10 years now, it's certainly good for the price, and atmospheric being all candle-lit and whatnot, and their moules mariniere are as good as you'll get anywhere. For quality of food overall though, La Petite Auberge opposite Le Merc is better.
Thai - Rabieng on Upper St
Vietnamese - the Viet Garden on Liverpool Road - very popular
Italian - Metrogusto on Theberton St. Very good. Has 2 wine lists - you have to ask for the special list. They remember my name when I go in there, I like that.
The Almeida on Almeida St. (opposite the eponymous Almedia Theatre) is a flash Conran restaurant which serves French peasant food at definitely non-peasant prices. Sat next to Jonathan Pryce in there once. Food fairly average but a good wine list.
Gastropubs - Drapers Arms, The Barnsbury and The Albion, all in Barnsbury. The latter of those has the biggest beer garden in Islington, as far as I know.
Pubs & bars: For a laugh you have to go to the Kings Head on Upper Street - live music of an evening and an eclectic bunch of people. Has a theatre at the back as well.
The Grand Union is ok (was the Royal Mail), as is Albert & Pearl (was the Medicine Bar). If you get tired of the chain pubs on upper st though, which are all pretty much identical, you could always try The Florence just behind the Shell garage on Upper St. or the Hemmingford Arms on the corner of Offord Rd and Hemingford Rd, one of the last few old fashioned london pubs around.
