Cancelling my gym membership...

Joined a month ago, most of you will be aware of the situation, going back to commuting during the week and won't use the gym.

I'm signed up to a 12 month contract at £80pcm - ouch, would rather have that grand in my back pocket this year!?

David Lloyd, anyone have any experience of trying?

Sorry, no direct experience, but with some gyms you can sell the membership on for a fee. (if you find someone to buy it)

I thought that DL required 3-months notice? Even if you cancel the direct debit make sure they still don't try to deduct money from your account after that.

I'm afraid they insist on this 3 months notice clause, no ifs or buts. I know, because I fell foul of this when I decided to give up my membership after nine years as it was getting too expensive (£70 when I cancelled it)

Anyway, back onto the point. David Lloyd have a 3 month cancellation clause written in to their contracts, so it looks like you will have to stump up some cash. Having said that, you can always try appealing to their softer side with a tear jerking story. Off the top of my head, but you could always make up a story, something like telling them that your flatmate is a psycho we and that you have to leave the area really quickly?

My partner had a car crash with whiplash ,we were on joint members so they cancelled it,.You could get a doctors note for mystery back pain and use that.

Id rather not have to do something as drastic as that. Someone in the office told me that if you can offer a letter proving you are being relocated then that may work - but I can't, as I'm not being relocated, just moving house.
