Guys

Received a cheque from an American firm a couple of weeks ago made out to me in American Dollars (fancy that!). What can I do with it? How can I go about cashing it?

Any ideas?

It's for more than $100 so it's a useful amount.

Just put it in an account. The bank will use the current exchange rate at the time of processing.

All you can do is put it into your account, however the last time I did this it took several weeks to clear, possibly six weeks if memory serves me right.

If you want the money quickly then one of the high st "cheques cashed" places would probably only charge you 3% to cash it.

Depends how much more than $100 really. When I had the misfortune of being paid in dollars I insisted on multiple cheques if the total was over $5k as that was the break point at which NatWest would start dicking around and do the 28 day thing, anything less and the money usually appeared in about a week.

Just used to pay it in using my standard payinng in book but would scribble out the £ sign and replace it with a $.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks for the advice chaps - it's actually for a little under $450 dollars so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a trick you know?
