Interested in buying a new (registered in March this year with 50 miles on the clock) R32. Its got DSG, all extras basically, touch DVD NAV etc etc. I think the dealer is saying its worth £29,000 if specced new. Anyone have any experience of the market out there and what a good price for this car would be. I presume it will be effected by the new shape in 18 months time etc etc. Will having two owners make much difference either at resale time. Its funny as well as all dealers who buy my cars back from me tell me the options dont add value just help sell the car when there are similar cars out there. Any thoughts from people in the know. Cheers. Maverick.

my 2p..

vw are being hit hard (across their big petrol engines) with the recent emission and tax rules. manufacturers like bmw for instance are way ahead of them in their production cycles of more efficient engines to beat the restrictions.

on top of this its becoming widely accepted that the gti is the better all round performer IF the price of petrol is a concern to you. (you cant beat the sound of that V6 mind).

with all that in mind, there are awesome deals to be done.

i looked at a similar spec car (57 plate) for 21 (cash) from main dealer.

ETA: reason i bailed on the deal is because there are 10k miles cars around that are 6 months older for 17k now. gotta love this credit crunch !

It won't be affected by the new shape as I'm pretty sure the MK5 Golf will be the last with the glorious V6 engine. All future "R" models are likely to have a tuned turbo 4 pot.

I've got a MkV R32 and love it and I know the prices took a hit with the road tax and relatve high fuel costs. What's an extra £200 a year on Road Tax ? A pain I know but many people spend over £00 on cr@p cosmetic stuff. MPG is not brilliant but I can manage over 30mpg if I try.

Go ahead and pick up a bargain because I'm pretty sure once this stabilise they will become popular gain for the V6 engine alone. If you go for one with Leather Recaros have a good look over them as there have been quality issues on them.

Prices will only stabilise once demand picks up and that will not happen for some time. In addition, VW are selling R32's to the leasing guys with massive discounts 22 - 30%. Therefore, the secondhand market will be flooded with ex-lease R32's in 12, 24 and 36 months time.

You need a MASSIVE discount on the price. Big engined cars just arent shifting.

Cheers for your thoughts. Bit of a worry if big discounts have been given to the leasing market which as is pointed out will flood the market in years to come.

Sorry to butt in with this but my father was offered £4k off a brand new R32 that was due for end of September, good spec. and colour he decided not to go for as it prompted him to think again about possible depreciation.

I paid £24500 for the same car but with rear parking sensors as well 2 years ago.

Still a great car.I come into contact with many cars at all prices in my job and the Mk5 R32 is still my current favorite car-it just does everything so well.

As above please, in the name of all things holy, don't pay anything like £29k for an R32!

It is however a brilliant car (in my entirely unbiased opinion as a former owner biggrin) so go and find a bargain used one as there are plenty knocking about

Oli has hit the nail on the head - big engined VWs are taking a hammering in values at the moment with expensive fuel, VED rates and the economic climate.

Don't pay £29k - haggle it down by a couple of grand at least or walk away.
