996 -Water in rear passenger footwell
Discussion
After the recent rains I noticed that the carpet in the nearside rear passenger area was damp and tried to dry out leaving the hood open on the better days and wiping the carpet with towels etc. After a week of no rain I was horrified to find the carpet sopping wet and having lifted it discovered a pool in the footwell. Having washed the car I now think its coming in via the gap between the soft top housing cover and the side panel. Ive heard this is common on Boxters but not on 996s. Any readers have similar experience?
I had water on the o/f rear footwell of my 996, which my indie removed it by unblocking a drain hole. The drain hole was accessed by unscrewing the rear speaker, putting his arm into the cavity and blowing out the accumulated crap with a high pressure air-hose.
Irrespective of whether the above will solve your problem, the more serious issue is that I was told that water puddles on the n/s (where you have yours) can become a very expensive problem because the alarm control unit sits under your passenger seat.
You'd better get it looked it, and not wash your car in the mean-time.

Hello
You need to find the cause of the water leak as the alarm control unit is underneath the passanger seat and does not react very well with water.
You also cannot dry these carpets very easily as they have sound proofing sponge underneath the carpet which just absorbs water.
We always remove the carpet and water test it....normally its a blocked drain or air-conditioining drain that is blocked/kinked.

Got water in off side rear foot well. Just had rear wheel off and lining out on my coupe to look for a drain but could not find anything. Couple of rubber bungs but sealed ones and no moisture.
Car does not have a sunroof, no damp on bottom of doors, no damp on front foot wells, no damp in nearside rear.
So is there a drain elsewhere? Is there a drain at all?
Is this likely just to be a leaking window seal?
Should i try one of those smoke bombs to find source?
Any advice out there?
Thanks in advance
