Well, i`ve had amazing fun in the 6 weeks since i picked up my chim but i reckon summer`s finally on it`s way out.
I intend using my baby as an every day car, until it get`s really nasty(SNOW & ICE)and i was wondering what i should be treating my roof with to keep it as waterproof and un-weathered as poss.
Tried a local motoring shop and he did`nt have a clue!
Mmm,won`t be going back there again!!!
Any help wpould be appreciated.

I use Fabsil, spray on and plenty of it. Seems to do the trick unless it really chucks it down for days.

Don't worry about the snow and ice as long as you are really careful it will be fine, and if the roads are quiet it might even be fun.
I remember a year or so ago when the council forgot to grit (the cold snap had only been predicted for a week or so) driving on a straight road with a big camber. 20mph back end not quiet lined up with the front steering to the left. Oh what joy.

Now I've always used Thompson's waterseal, but does it have to be Thompsons? when I bought my last tin, there was the B&Q homebrand, and in Wilko's I've seen Cuprinol waterseal, both look like the same product, but are even cheaper than Thonpsons, are they the same thing

Hi Alan

The car did receive a treatment of Fabsil just before you took it - we are advised that an annual treatment should be sufficient.

Take it steady out there with these freshly wetted roads!

Peter,thanks for that.
It`s one of those things that i did`nt think to ask when i picked the car up.Trouble was,i was too busy grinning to think straight. Great car.
Im mr cautious in any conditions but point taken.
Cheers

If you wash it a lot or it rains hard, I'd apply more often than yearly?? Autoglym do a twin set of cleaner & waterproofer - good for 2-3 applications - Halfwits sell it.

Thompson's Waterseal is best. Search for it on PH and you'll find plenty of threads on this topic.

Yeah Thompsons Water Seal is good stuff. Soaked the fabric hood on my Griff with it.

It does what it says on the tin....

Never used Thompson's, but did apply some Fabsil to the roof last week.

Must say that I was a little apprehensive at first, but just got a decent paint brush and slapped the stuff on. Very easy to apply works a treat.

Yes it may be a little more expensive than Thomson's but the difference is only about a fiver, and when it comes to keeping everything dry and protecting the roof then I don't consider an extra fiver a lot of money. The car is definitely worth it!

My only point was that I used Fabsil for a bit then switched to Waterseal. On the Chimaera -- my current car is watertight out of the box ). The Fabsil needed renewing frequently or water got in. The Waterseal I renewed twice a year, and it didn't. And it's cheaper.
