How do you guys feel about the New Beetle
Discussion
Hi guys
I am currently thinking about buying a New Beetle 1.8T. I want one as i want a newer car and the beetle seems fairly good value. Also i really like the 1.8T engine from my mates TT. I like the shape of the Beetle and thinks it stands out and doesn't look as boring as most new cars. Allthough i am aware that it has a girlish reputation. So i just wanted to hear what you guys thinks about it? Am i gay for thinking about this?
I've seen some quite smart examples on the net, and if you got some pics of nice ones, i would really like to see them.

I really want a newBeetle too but assides from the fact that I cannot afford one my Mum reckons it's not a mans car at all. I'm not fussed whether it looks gay or not personally. The dash-flower can always be removed. If I'm honest, a black 1.8T with the bigger 5-arm alloy wheels doesn't look gay at all

A little different to what? The (original) beetle is one of the biggest selling cars ever?
The styling is a pastiche. It might be different to your standard euro box but the bandwagon of pastiche is pretty full up these days (beetle, 500 and mini).
I can however see how the Beetle might pull the heart strings for some.

I think it sits nciely along with the other 2 cars you mentioned...
Yes full up.
A day doesnt go by without seeing a modern pastiche car.
The mini is obviously everywhere. The Fiat 500 is catching up! The Beetle is also pretty popular.
Up until 5 years ago or so there wasnt a pastiche car to be seen.
So until recently I dont believe that the retro marketing car existed. Now there are 3 of them and they have sold pretty well.

i side wit Gazzab here, the first mini, 500 and the beetle were all in there day ground breaking designs.. made for a purpose and with intent. the 500 was to get a nearly bankrupt italy mobile again, the mini introduced cheap fun motoring and genuine innovation and the beetle was well the beetle the peoples car. The new Beetle, for me, has missed the point. Although as a piece of design i can see the appeal, and its an utter pastiche, if its an evolution or a step forward then great, ie the elan to the MX5. but its not so much the pastiche that fustrates me its the current angle towards making cars look good, i just hope the same attention to detail goes towards the mechanics, for me thats the priority its got to work first THEN look good. A day doesnt go by without seeing a modern pastiche car.

HOWEVER, the beetle RSi i like, its rather pointless but fun.
Buy a classic if you want one, its a whole different experience, one i am probably going to go back to.
Beetle's are Great cars and there not girly at all
